I quite enjoyed this story, I listened to it on CD in the car too and from work.

Belle Baker was pregnant and the father of child wanted it aborted, she chose not to, so when she meets George Carson she marries him, gives up her life in Sydney and goes to live in Gundagai, along the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.

Belle longs for her son, Teddy to be a star - something that had been elusive in her short vaudiville career. She takes him to Sydney and he finds a small part in a movie where he becomes known as The Murrumbidgee Kid. After a while Ted picks up job along with his friend Sally in a regular review and for 12 months Sally and Ted have a lot of fun, but then they decide they've had enough.

In the mean time George goes on with life without his wife and child in Gundagai until Bell becomes ill and dies, then life changes for Teddy, by then he knows who his real father is. ( )
