A good story, dragging at times when it comes to the investigation side, but although the characters rekindled their flames in 2 weeks, it seemed like a long time. This is different from the other novels; in here the hero and heroine (Charles and Penelope) have a history together. This story is about true love and how time tested it, both are hesitant at first but if not for Charles's persistence, nothing would come out of their relationship. This novel focused more on Charles's life as a spy and I liked how his reflections were written, and how he is with Penelope, someone true and transparent. Penelope on the other hand just let life pass her by to know in the end her life stopped when Charles went away, and that together they fill each other's half and then their lives would go on. There are similarities in her books on how the heroine reacts to facing danger with their partners. The love scenes are way over the top, they're sizzling hot and rich in detail, very vivid and sensual, the words reach you and touches you, I always enjoy reading her love scenes. The character I'm most intrigued about is Dalziel and I can't wait to read his story. ( )I love Charles's and Penny's story. I love have they had a thing from before and now they pick up again. Charles St. Austell is a master spy, and so is assigned to uncover a spying and smuggling ring in Cornwall. While there, Charles runs into Penny, the woman who left him after just one night. Charles wins back Penny's hand - though only after many overdone twists and turns in the plot. Not one for readers short of patience. Charles St.Austel, an ex-secret agent, has retired to his Cornwall home to escape the ton and the marriage minded mothers. He's also supposed to investigate rumours of spies near his home as well. The first thing he finds is Lady Penelope Selborne, neighbour and ex-lover. She's been avoiding him for years but he finds that his heart beats as strongly for her and although she is still avoiding him he thinks he might have a chance if tries hard enough. Fun regency romp with a fair bit of sex and espionage. no reviews | add a review

The seven members of the Bastion Club have served loyally in the perilous service of the Crown. Now they've banded together to support one another through their most dangerous mission of all: getting married.
When Charles St. Austell returns home to claim his title as earl, and to settle quickly on a suitable wife as well, he discovers that experience has made him impatient of the young ladies who vie for his attention—with the exception of Lady Penelope Selborne. Years ago, Charles and Penelope's youthful ardor was consummated in an unforgettable afternoon. Charles is still haunted by their interlude, but Penny refuses to have anything more to do with him.
If controlling her heart was difficult before, resisting a stronger, battle-hardened Charles is well nigh impossible, yet Penelope has vowed she won't make the same mistake twice, nor will she marry without love. But when a traitorous intrigue draws them together, then ultimately threatens them both—will Penny discover she has a true protector in Charles, her first and only love, who now vows to make her his own?
