Johanna Lindsey's books came to me highly recommended, so I was sorry to find this novel so disappointing. The premise is intriguing but ultimately the shallow 'relationship' between the hero and heroine, the poor characterisation and the clumsy treatment of Regency society overshadowed any pleasure I initially found in the book. At the tender age of 6, Danny was found near a trash dump with her nurse all cut up. Danny had a gash on her head and no memory. A young girl found her, trained her to steal and act like a boy. At age 20 or so she was discovered/used to steal for handsom Jeremy. She worked as his upstairs maid, but he was in love with her. She refused to be his mistress. She got her "proper" language back and when someone was trying to kill her; it was discovered she was the child of a wealthy family. ( )
