In my opinion the book “Superdog: The Heart of a Hero” is a humorous yet inspiring book for young students to read. While the main character is a dog, his feelings and characteristics are believable. Students who are small may feel ostracized from their peers and be able to relate to Dex. “Being the size that he was, Dex was often overlooked.” While being left out is not a nice feeling, Dex shows perseverance to overcome a bullying situation. He uses his imagination to become superdog, a kind and helpful dog. This can inspire readers to have large dreams like Dex and teach them determination. Lastly, Dex makes situations happy, and funny, which will have students laughing the whole time. “He looked like a plump sausage sitting on four little meatballs.” The main message of this book is determination to achieve any dream you think of. This is a little old for Jake right now, but Dex reminds us of our dachshund Scrappy. Dex is a bit of an underdog, who decides he's going to be a super dog. Very fun! ( )

A story book and comic book combined, this book tells about the bravery of a little dog and unlikely hero. It captures of the attention of boys and girls both and children can relate to its commentary on being small and overlooked. ( )

Dexter is a little dog. He's so little that the other dogs forget to invite him to play, and Cleevis the tomcat bullies him.

But little Dexter has dreams -- big dreams. He wants to be a superhero. So Dexter starts a superhero training program. And suddenly, even Cleevis needs his help!

In Superdog, husband-and-wife team Mark and Caralyn Buehner have created a timeless story about a true superhero. Dexter has determination, spirit, and heart as he proves, above all, that no matter how little you are, you can still do very big things.
