Geraldine, her granddaughter Maddie and nephew Skip are at it again. This time the murder hits a little too close to home for Skip, his girlfriend June pleads with him to help her best friend, the person he just picked up for a murder charge.

Nothing will do except for Gerry and Maddie to get busy trying to prove that someone else did the deed.

As usual there are several miniature tips for decorating your own doll houses for box rooms.

There were plenty of red herrings in this one but I did suspect the actual villain for a while. As usual a fun read and a good mystery ( )

A retired teacher, now miniaturist and grandmother, Geraldine Porter relocated from the Bronx to California. She loves her family, friends and the life she's created for herself. So when her neighbor/friend June asks for help vindicating June's best friend Zoe who has been arrested in the murder of her artist boyfriend, Gerry learns everything she can about Brad, the victim, Zoe and other artists, actors and participants involved in the Lincoln-Douglas debate Re-enactment.

Good characterizations and plot but the pacing could move a bit faster. Otherwise another fun mystery that I enjoyed. ( )

Miniaturist and retired English teacher Geraldine Porter is drawn into another murder investigation by her nephew Skip’s girlfriend June Chinn. Of course, Skip himself – a homicide detective – would prefer that his Aunt Gerry stay out of it. Gerry is pressured by her precocious eleven-year-old granddaughter Maddie to let her help. Always more than eager to shield the child from the seamier side of life and any danger, Gerry must nonetheless admit Maddie has been a big help in the past.

Our heroine’s latest case involves the murder of a local artist. His girlfriend Zoe is in jail for the crime and June is absolutely certain her friend is innocent. Gerry is on a tight deadline to complete a miniature depiction of one of Abraham Lincoln’s debates with Stephen A. Douglas … as part of Lincoln’s Point’s annual celebration of the REAL Lincoln’s birthday, February 12. But, of course, Gerry finds time to do her sleuthing -- and Maddie wangles her way into the middle of it all.

This is a solid cozy series with top-notch writing, plotting and character development. I sometimes find Gerry overly judgmental, definitely not the sweet-tempered sleuth that predominates in cozy mysteries. (That could be considered a plus.) Maddie, as usual, balances her sometimes sour grandmother. The girl’s mother Mary Lou, usually a mere mention in these “miniature mysteries,” is a splendid addition to the mix, playing a major role in Malice in Miniature
