This Omnibus volume contains all of the Napoleonic stories written by Conan Doyle. These are 'Uncle Bernac', 'Exploits of Brigadier Gerard' and 'Adventures of Gerard ',and 'The Great Shadow'. All of these are well worth reading but it is with the two collections of the Brigadier Gerard stories that Doyle excels himself. They are about an old french soldier, long retired, who sits all day telling stories to anyone who will listen to him,of his exploits of long ago in the French army. He is both boastful and vain, a flawed hero indeed, but the tales he tells are ones that you will want to read again and again. Anyone who imagines that Sherlock Holmes is the only memorable character that Doyle invented, please read these wonderful tales, and think again. ( )
