... I am just as addicted to her as I am to Neil Gaiman - it's partly historical). Anyway, I loved it - a return to form after The Pinhoe Egg, which I found a little disappointing to be honest. But maybe I should try that last again. Pure escapism anyway!
45) Bill Bryson - Shakespeare: Th ... In the middle of:
The Pinhoe Egg by Diana Wynne Jones
Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco
and
The Fall by Albert Camus which for some odd reason I am having a hard time getting through and I'm not sure why. 40. Conrad's Fate
41. Pinhoe Egg ... not sure which would be considered the 'first' book - maybe The Lives of Christopher Chant? I also love Charmed Life, The Pinhoe Egg, and Conrad's Fate.
Books by Nick Bantock:
- Griffin and Sabine trilogy
Technically there are five books, but I like the first three best by a long ... ... for 2007:
Best:
Conrad's Fate by Diana Wynne Jones
A Chrestomanci book that I really loved. I also liked The Pinhoe Egg a lot, but I just could not put Conrad's Fate down.
The Sagan Diary by John Scalzi
From the Old Man's War world, a beautiful book that ... ... got back from the post-christmas sales. I bought Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind and Diana Wynne Jones' The Pinhoe Egg (plus the Babylon 5 Lost Tales finally came out here, so I'm watching that this evening). I read more than one book at once, and my reading speed drops dramatically:
142. *The Pinhoe Egg by Diana Wynne Jones (480)
Loved it, absolutely loved it. I love the old Chrestomanci books like Charmed Life and The Lives of Christopher Chant but the latest ones are, if possible, ... ... by Diana Jones
26. The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
27. Death in the Andamans by M.M. Kaye
28. The Pinhoe Egg by Diana Jones
29. No Coins, Please by Korman
30. The New Year by Pearl S. Buck
31. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Jones
32. I Want ... ... one, you're likely to enjoy this. It's a quick read, more of a novella than a novel, but coming so soon after last year's The Pinhoe Egg, I was just excited to see another book by her, as I thought we'd have a couple years to wait until another book came out.
#29: As for Terrier, I ... I finished The Pinhoe Egg, another Chrestomanci novel. It took me awhile to get caught up in the story, but in the end I really did enjoy it. Diana Wynne Jones is such an inventive fantasy author. Her world is just a little off-kilter from ours; and when I read her stories I always wish that I ... ... been rummaging through my stack, which is not quite as large as kdk's, but large enough. I've decided my next book will be The Pinhoe Egg by Diana Wynne Jones. She is a British fantasy author that I have been enjoying since the early eighties. I especially love her Chrestomanci series, of which ... Chrestomanci: The Lives of Christopher Chant, Conrad's Fate, Charmed Life, The Magicians of Caprona, Witch Week, The Pinhoe Egg is the series chronological order. (Real world publishing order is different; if you read Charmed Life first you'll experience a strange time-shift later in ... ... so closely related that you can't read them out of order) ... She has continued on in recent years with Conrad's Fate and The Pinhoe Egg in the Chrestomanci series. I haven't gotten around to The Pinhoe Egg yet, but Conrad's Fate was OK, if maybe not up to her first ones in the series. Noth ... ... with children of the same age). Then, nearly 30 years later, DWJ gave us Conrad's Fate (Christopher as a teen) and The Pinhoe Egg (Christopher as an adult, clearly follows Charmed Life). So, ignoring other, 'passing appearance', titles for a moment, is it CL, LoCC, CF, PE (real world ... ... interesting, so I would recommend them to YA fantasy fans. In a completely different vein of YA fantasy, I also read The Pinhoe Egg by Diana Wynne Jones, the latest Chrestomanci book -- excellent as hers always are.
Now I'm starting on the Firebirds Rising anthology, and hopefully ... Just finished Diana Wynne Jones' newest, Pinhoe Egg. A trip back to the world of Chrestomanci, and though I didn't think this one was quite as startlingly original as some of her other books, it had the usual excitingly labyrinthine plot twists at the end. She never lets me down! ... for the invitation to join the group.
I adore anything by Diana Wynne Jones and have just bought and devoured The Pinhoe Egg which is the latest in the Chrestomanci series. I liked it very much.
The Lost Colony (Artemis Fowl Series) by Eoin Colfer. It was good, too. Just testing... anyone bought anything interesting lately? I am waiting for The Pinhoe Egg at the moment. Oh, look at all that Diana Wynne Jones love in the most commonly shared books! Her Pinhoe Egg comes out very soon!
