I was going to wait until Jan. 1st to begin, but I got snowed in, so m ... Reading Overthrow about the US's regime changes since 1893. Very interesting, though not strictly military history. Don't agree with the author on everything, but it's some good history that I know little about. Our involvement with Vietnam was actually the last gasp of WWII.
The depressing thing about Overthrow (which I have read) is that at least 75% of the examples of American Imperialism from Hawaii through Iraq have to do with providing military and political support for the needs of private ... ... manipulate events in the region.
As for 20th century examples of American takeovers there is Stephen Kinzer's Overthrow chronicling everything from Hawaii to Iraq. It's very interesting. I am hoping to finish off The Heart of the Matter by Graham Greene by the end of the week and perhaps Overthrow by Stephen Kinzer as well. ... there was a slight fall off without Child pitching in. City of Bones was another excellent work from Connelly.
