I wanted to like this book, but I think I read it too soon after my own mother's death. It was difficult to get through reading the way the kids all felt about losing their mom, while remembering how that felt myself. Ok, if slightly overly religious, but not brilliant. ( )

I enjoyed Yesterday's Embers. I was a bit concerned with I realized it was book #3 in a series and I had not read the first two books. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find the book was able to stand alone. It was a thoughtful book about loss and how it impacts family dynamics. It was an enjoyable read. I would be definitely pass this book along to others to read who enjoyed Christian fiction.

Nice story about people recovering from a tragedy in a small town in Kansas. Vividly drawn modern-day characters who must deal with the complexities of oft more complicated family life.

This book was difficult to get into, only because I recently lost a loved one, and that is still very fresh to me. Those who enjoy feeling the scope of emotions will like this book. Now that I have read this, I am anxious to get the first 2 and read those as well.
