Got you starred, of course! I'm debating whether I want to pick up The Glass Castle, myself. Usually not my taste for reading (memoirs), but I am curious to see how screwed up her childhood was.

... the school system there, the Eleven Plus stress and so on. I didn't have to live with an outdoor loo, though! Hey Fliss! After being sooo behind on threads, I'm finally caught up on yours :) I'm reading The Glass Castle right now, so it was interesting to read everyone's comments on it. A group of my students are reading it, and they are so shocked by Jeanette's life. I agree with you about the ...

Book #108 - The Glass Castle - Jeannette Walls - Finished December 14, 2009 I had avoided reading this book since it came out. A number of times, I have picked it up and read the synopsis on the back. But a memoir about a dysfunctional childhood is not the type of book that I usually read. ...

#130: I agree with you about The Glass Castle - I have no idea how Walls' parents could call themselves parents!

I finished The Glass Castle this morning, but haven't written the review yet... still letting it all sink in. I'm sure there's a Lifetime Movie Network production in that book, but not sure I'd want to see it done. It could be so Daytime TV without much effort. I've got about 1/4 of the way ...

Good morning Mark; I took your advice and ordered The Glass Castle, couldn't find Half Broke Horses at a reasonable enough price so will wait on that one. I see you are still reading your mystery and crime genres. I will have to work some of those into my list for 2010. Enjoy the ...

... Horses and I do recommend it because Walls is a terrific writer and she has quite a tale to tell. But for me, this wasn't The Glass Castle and yes Lily irritated me during the second half of the book, just like Joanne. That didn't make it a bad read. (I gave it 4 stars.) I'll be interested ...

86. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls I really enjoyed this book. I grew up with an alcoholic so in many ways I could relate. That being said, we were never in the same kind of poverty as the author was in. While some may find the way the author is so frank and non-chalant about things I ...

... by proxy. I wonder why so many professionals: doctors, teachers, social workers, etc. did not help this child. I read The Glass Castle: A Memoir earlier this year. There was love shown by the parents of Ms. Walls in Glass Castle. In Sickened it was total abuse.

#254 I'm disappointed to hear that about The Glass Castle as I really really love A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (its a major comfort read, my first copy has pretty much fallen apart so I need a new one) and I think any similarities would irritate me.

#247 Hi flissp! Hope you're having a fun time in Denmark. I lost interest in reading The Glass Castle after several people in my book club noticed numerous similarities between Walls memories and sections of the book A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Co-workers have told me it's a good book, a must ...

Can't wait to see what you think of Half Broke Horses; I loved Glass Castle :)

Just finished The Glass Castle. It started out slowly, and I found the rather whiney tone of it a little off-putting. But as it went along, I found myself becoming more interested. The Glass Castle was one of my top reads last year. I agree with your Oh. My. God.

One hundred two of seventy-five: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls Oh. My. God. Walls has a non-fiction novel coming out this month, so I decided to re-read the book that started all the ruckus before I got Half-Broke Horses. A little backstory: I was romantically involved ...

34. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls Still digesting this one, not reallly sure whether to be more shocked at the parents or the various government agencies for not looking out after the kids. Does leave you wondering about the one sister and what happened to her.

Loved both Beloved and Glass Castle! What an amazingly different childhood Wall had. Interesting how the same upbringing can bring out the best in some people, and the worst in others. Am also reading My Life in France. Julia is actually quite amusing!

I've posted my review of The Glass Castle. Definitely one of the best non-fiction books I've ever read.

Karen, I too thought The Glass Castle was amazing. I think what particularly impressed me was her lack of self-pity. It so easily could have been one of those whiny books with pages and pages of agonizing over her situation, but instead she simply and beautifully told her story, leaving it to ...

I have read both The Glass Castle and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I found them both to be very good, if not excellent. Let me know what you think.

I finished The Glass Castle this morning and it was absolutely brilliant. Her perspective, acceptance, and love for her parents shines through all the horribleness, selfishness, and disfunction of the family. Starting The Moving Toyshop today.

I am reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls and absolutely loving it. I'm still trying to get back to The Assault on Reason by Al Gore, but there are too many fiction books that are holding my attention right now.

Got The Moving Toyshop and added it to Edmund Crispin category. Am loving The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

32 The Glass Castle Jeannette Walls my librarian gave this book to me, she thought I would like it. And she was right, I thought it was excellent. Funny thing is I found myself relating to many of the things happening in the story. Not that my life was like hers so much, just that she has ...

    Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

I also really liked The Glass Castle. I didn't have a hard time believing her story. I agree with you that she wrote a story based on her memory of her childhood. #9 - Well, I enjoyed The Glass Castle myself, and I believe it's what she remembers of her childhood. Some of it might not have been as bad as she recalls, and some of it could have been worse. I probably won't read The Glass Castle, because I'm really not a fan of non-fiction. However, I am so glad that this book was brought up. I've been trying to find a non-fiction book like this for my friend for Christmas. She loved A Child Called It and all the others and she didn't know what ...

I have to say I am leaning towards The Glass Castle, Boy Meets Boy or Looking for Alaska. The China Garden and The House of the Scorpion seem a little too much like Uglies to read next (sci-fi & fantasy...), but definately for future discussions. The House of the Scorpion is ...

... it is. It almost seems more like a children's book even though it's tagged young adult twice as much as children's. The Glass Castle is also very different from what we've read in that's it's non-fiction, so that might be an interesting change. Twilight is a completely different ...

I'm currently in the middle of The Glass Castle which is the first non-YA book I've read in a while, and I am quite enjoying it. I find myself in a fairly perpetual state of shocked and amused disbelief reading about the exploits of Jeannette Walls and her family. Hilarious in that ...
