Intro by Asimov. I loved this book from the first page and continued loving it till the last page. I don’t understand why it took weeks to finish it. This book is history that way I would want to teach it. Stories that people can relate to and remember. I found myself reading them out loud to anyone who would listen. I was amazed at the stores. Reads like a Paul Harvey without the surprise endings. Some of the history I already knew, but Boardman focuses new light on the events. Ending the book with the Hiroshima bombing without further comment is brilliant. Caspian is going to snatch up this book next as he listened most when I read these stories. When (?) I teach I will search for bits of history to embellish the history that most students find boring. Boardman tells us about the common man and woman as well as important events like WWII which he goes into depth at times with. I would buy and read more of these year anecdotal history books anytime. 10-2006 ( )
