An old book. A bit more entertaining now than the first several time I read it. ( )

Heavily erotic and not especially historical. Less humor and imagination than in her time-shifting fantasy A Knight in Shining Armor which I enjoyed. ( )

An arrogant brat of a girl-woman abuses the genuine if inexplicable love of a good man -- all because she refuses to think for herself or stand up to her family. In other words, this is an annoying book, one that will leave you with a headache from rolling your eyes so much. If you haven't already guessed, the heroine of this particular story is a sniveling waste of ink, and there's no getting past that. ( )

No matter how honorable my intentions, I just can't seem to avoid the paranormal. I sat down today with every intention of reading a historical romance. Historical. Romance. Not a mention of vampires or werewolves or shifters (oh my!), not even a witch in sight of the back cover blurb. This was my literary effort to expand my boundaries. I didn't account for ghosts, though.

Second in the Peregrine duet, this one follows the youngest Peregrine, Zared, who has spent her life disguised as a boy for her safety's sake. Tearle Howard, part of the Howard family that's been feuding with the Peregrines, notices she's a girl and quickly falls in love with her. Both families are shocked, and Zared has to make decisions about who to trust and support. ( )

Book description
Lovely 17-year-old Zared Peregrine is the pride of her family, a treasure her rough-hewn brothers, Rogan and Severn, will strive at any cost to protect from their ancient enemies, the Howards. The Peregrines have suffered loss enough in this blood feud --- their mother, father, four other brothers, and very nearly Liana, Rogan's wife. Fearing they may lose their beloved little sister as well, Rogan and Severn train Zared in the arts of war and dress her in boys' clothing --- but refuse to allow her to venture outside their fortress alone. So no one knows that they youngest Peregrine is a girl. Yet when the magnificent knight Tearle Howard returns from a lengthy sojourn in France, it takes him but a glance to realize that Zared is most definitely female --- and beautiful. Handsome, dark-eyed Tearle knows he wants Zared from the moment he sees her. And Zared, foolishly, makes his conquest simple: a girl raised with a sword in her hand is not easily sequestered behind castle walls. So as the enmity between their families rages on, Tearle mounts a bold campaign to win the ravishing spitfire's heart --- and save her from the dark feud that threatens Zared's life.
