Even in the authorship-confused genre of erotic literature this book offers a subtle puzzle, in the inclusion of two chapters attributed to the acclaimed P.N. Dedeaux. However, they fit remarkably well with Pyx’ style, although there are possibly echoes of Dedeaux’ ‘The Nothing Things’. The book has a distinctively implicit, even convoluted style, which some might find awkward. It is set within the American higher educational system, at an establishment where sorority hazing is elevated to rigorous routine, and where it is natural that a professor may be both enthusiastically and unremarkably involved. Impossibly strict sorority and college rules are routinely enforced, usually between peers, and with an improbable ferocity which must certainly keep the rears of the young female students in a barely relieved state of throbbing anguish. A number of rivalries and power-plays may be distinguished within the progression from one punishment to the next, but it is the focus on willingly accepted, even enjoyed, chastisements which provides the flow of interest. The book will certainly be appreciated, therefore, by those in search of heavy-duty pain infliction for erotic purposes. ( )
