Admittedly, this book did not call me and I was somewhat prejudiced by the knowledge that it was written by a Christian author, but don't let this or the banal cover put you off from reading it. The story it utterly original and compelling, with well-drawn characters. The loss of a child is trope which never becomes cliche because of the sheer horror of it. Kraus crafts an excellent story around this topic, one which I recommend. ( )

I received this book at the end of March and put off reading it for reasons unknown except that it just wasn't calling me. The cover wasn't inviting and neither was the title. Once I picked it up though and got into it I read it quite quickly. It was a nicely written suspense story with characters I liked and ones that I hated. The book did have a little bit of what I call "fluff" though..paragraphs that didn't contribute to the story, but just seemed to draw it out. I did do some skimming in the second half of the book, I think it could have been "tighter" and come to a conclusion quicker than it did. Overall, not bad, it was a good story and I was happy with the outcome. ( )

At first glance, this book is not one I would typically read. The cover did not grab me (and yes, I always judge books by the cover), but I was certainly not disappointed that I read it. The plot was thrilling, intriguing and fast-paced! An excellent thriller that I definitely recommend

I was not as thrilled about this one as some have been. The premise behind the story was alright, but I just couldn't get into the book overall. Perhaps because I don't subscribe to the general christian beliefs and outlooks on life. Overall it wasn't too bad.

This was my first Early Reviewer's book and I have taken my sweet time putting this review up. Best laid plans... Now, to the review!

I actually enjoyed this book. I was a little put off when I read that the author, Harry Kraus, described himself as a "Christian writer" and was worried that it would play too big a role in his writing for my taste. However, this was just not the case. Christianity does play a minor role in the novel, but not in the way one expects. In fact, the main character, David Conners - an M.D. who's daughter goes missing - spends more time questioning his faith and the existence of a god who would allow this tragedy to befall his family then he does finding solace in that god's message.

Overall, this is a great detective story. Of course, our "detective" is also the catalyst for much of the conflict in the story - taking his daughter's kidnapping into his own hands, and eventually becoming judge and jury for the other players in the story.

An engaging read, and good for those who enjoy medical mysteries, family stories, and plenty of self-reflection and examination by the characters. ( )

have to admit I was not going to read this book. The cover of the book did not appeal to me and it looked rather gory, I am so glad I changed my mind. This Christian fiction book covers suspense, hope, revenge, and forgiveness. Salty Like Blood attempts to answer the question, “Why would a God of love allow so much pain?”

Dr. David Conner’s career is on the fact track. He is about to make partner. Suddenly life is turned upside down when his seven year old daughter goes missing. Everything Dr. Conner’s has worked so hard for, his marriage and his medical practice, are now threatened to be destroyed. Dr. Conner’s would not accept the fact that his daughter had died from drowning in the Chesapeake Bay. He also comes face to face with the guilt he has been carrying around for a lifetime and only God can rescue him.

This is not your normal Christian fiction style book; I love the real characters throughout this book. There are some side stories that add extra depth to the story, and some side stories that I believe could have been left out. But it was a book that kept me up late into the night. Just when you feel you have everything figured out Harry Kraus keeps you guessing. This story is about any parent’s nightmare and it is not a “feel good” book, but it is a powerful story about the journey towards forgiveness. Could you ever forgive a person who took your child?

If you are looking for a book you can not put down, I recommend Salty Life Blood. I look forward to more books by harry Kraus, M.D.
