... make the touchstones because something went wrong. I simply can't believe no one recommended The Flame and the Flower, The Wolf and The Dove or all her other novels! #125 most of her early work (that I read way back when they were new -- 1970's) are set in the medieval and 17th century ...

It's the wrong era (Norman conquest) or I'd suggest The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss. Hope someone can help you!

... only owned it for years... I'm really taking my time with Outlander and enjoying it. It's been years since I've read The Wolf and the Dove and all the historical romances of my 20's. Gabaldon has done a very good job. Pretty sure I'll read book 2 as well.

... books.. I can try some new ones I've never heard of before and maybe find some new favorites! Thank you!!! :) 1. The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss 2. A Rose in Winter by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss 3. The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss 4. Shanna by Ka ...

sarams - I have read several Kathleen E. Woodiwiss books over the years. And I have to tell you, I started The Wolf and the Dove at one point and couldn't finish it. I just couldn't like the hero and all the things he did to the heroine. Don't let that turn you off of Woodiwiss though. The ...

I thought I'd read a romance classic, so I have just finished The wolf and the dove by Kathleen E Woodiwiss. I have never tried to read anything by her before. It was well written, and parts of it I enjoyed very much. But I just couldn't find anything to like about that hero, and I just couldn't ...

... romance novel. Somehow, it doesn't feel right to rate The Prophet or The Gulag Archipelago the same as I would The Wolf and the Dove or Acid Row. So what happens? I waffle. One day I give a great mystery a 3-star rating, but a week later I give an equally good one a 4 1/2-sta ...

... A Sparrow Falls by Wilbur Smith Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott (excellent also!) The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss (my first romance novel) ETA last selection and remove one of the others.

I just recently bought The Wolf and the Dove again and loved it almost as much as the first time I read it. (CC, it was one of my first romances too.) Funny, though, I re-read The Flame and the Flower at the same time, and didn't care for that the second time.

Lady, The Wolf and The Dove was one of the very first romances I ever read, back in high school. I still remember practically all of it, that and The Flame and The Flower! CC

doelily18 - Is it maybe The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss? I remember a scene like the one you describe near the beginning of the book.

Definitely not The Wolf and the Dove, as that tells the story of a Norman Knight (Wulfgar) who conquers a Saxon stronghold and takes the daughter of the slain Saxon lord as his mistress and then wife. Aislinn, the Saxon daughter, doesn't fight him (physically at least). Also, this romance was ...

The Wolf and the Dove was the first romance I ever read and she opened up a whole new world to me. I know her son died last month, my prayers go out to the family.

That's a shame. I think The Wolf And The Dove was the first romance I ever read. Ms. Woodiwiss was truly a pioneer. CC

The first romance novels I read were in high school, too, back in the 70s... The Wolf and The Dove and The Flame and The Flower and almost all of Kathleen Woodiwiss' novels. At the time, they were riveting, and I still remember the entire plot from both of these, but I tried to read them again ...

... found the first four romance novels I ever read beginning back in 1974 (I remember because it was the year I got married): The Wolf and the Dove, The Flame and the Flower, and Shanna by Woodiwiss, and Sweet Savage Love by Rogers. I'm afraid to reread them; I'm pretty sure I wouldn't ...

... want pretentious cheese, Kathleen Woodiwiss is your go-to guy. A Rose in Winter, Shanna, The Flame and the Flower, The Wolf and the Dove, Come Love a Stranger, Petals on the River . . . OMG, they are SOOOO bad! You just gotta love a blurb as turgid as: The Wolf Noble Aislinn ...

My first was The Wolf and the Dove back in the late '70s. Before that, I was mostly into mysteries, sci-fi, and pop literature. Afterwards, I read nothing BUT romances for awhile. Then, after having read some real stinkers, and being a writer of sorts myself (mostly literary criticism for ...

... after reading Marcia_g's post at the "What are you currently reading?" thread. The first romance novel I ever read was The Wolf and The Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I still remember every bit of it, but I couldn't get past the first chapter when I tried to read it again the other day. I ...
