I have to confess that I gave up on this book. I was hoping for more of a biography detailing events but this is more of a reference/historical book with many names/dates/facts. I found it difficult to remember all of the people detailed as there were so many. I would recommend this for research into early Mission work in China and its progression but not as a missionary "story." Having said that I found the details about Hudson Taylor's family and struggles interesting. Reading about the many trials and deaths encouraged me to persevere as a missionary inspite of struggles.
