Yet even from afar he watched over her, and when her father sent an urgent summons, "Come for Jillian," he raced to her sideâ??into a competition to win her hand in marriage.

Why had he run from her so many years before? And why return now to see her offered as a prize in her father's manipulative game? Furious, Jillian vowed never to wed. But Grimm was the man she loved, the one who urged her to marry another. He tried to pretend indifference as she tempted him, but he could not deny the fierce desires that compelled him to abduct her from the altar. Well, okay then. We certainly had no hint in [b:Beyond the Highland Mist|743599|Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1)|Karen Marie Moning|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1303017809s/743599.jpg|729750] that Grimm was anything special. In fact, I wasn't sure whether to like him. I love a tortured, vulnerable hero. Possibly more than I like a 100% alpha male. I didn't like that he took her to bed then took off, though. I guess assuming that Quinn would marry her made it "okay", but in that time, being an unwed mother was a huge deal. I did love that once he kissed her the first time and knew she was his true mate, he never touched another woman. Curse or not, that's much better than him screwing everything that moved. ( )

eh. Love the Mac Lane books, this one didn't capture my attention.

2.5 stars

The repetition drove me bonkers. There was so much repetitive thoughts that I often found myself gritting my teeth.
Then there is Grimm. His ability to jump to the Wrong conclusion and his Self Pity makes up the majority of the story. It made me want to kick his butt, slap him and shake him till his teeth rattled.
The flow of the story was excruciatingly slow.

Yes, I know I am in the minority in my opinion of this story.
And, yes, I am going to read the next in the series.
I'll explain why later. ( )

Once I actually re-picked up this book, and sat down and read it I couldn't put it down. I started this book around 11pm and just now finished at 4:26am. I love it when a book gets you so drawn in that you can't put it down. But it can also be a downfall, especially when you have kids and college work to do. But since I read this while my kids were asleep it's ok, because I don't do my homework this late due to the fact I can't think in regards to academics this late at night.

Anyways to the book. This one was definitely better than the first though I liked the first book "Beyong the Highlands Mist", this one was more intriguing. The cat and mouse game was entertaining and sometimes really aggravating. But that's what I love about the PNR genre. The love and the aggravation you get from the characters. A good book, gets you deeply involved not only in the storyline, but also in the characters especially if you are going to see these characters through out the series. I love Grimm, I love his name, and his real name too, I love Jillian she was feisty and never gave up on what she wanted. I have a thing about books with men who have had a tortured past, and Grimm well he definitely had a tortured past. But since I try not to go into too much detail about a book, so I don't ruin it for others (key word "Trying"). This book was awesome, others have said the books get much better as you go, well if they get better after this one, maybe we need a 6 or 7 star rating system. *wink wink* ( )

Delightful and sensual!
The second book in the series takes us on a new journey with new characters with tried-and-true characters from the first making their appearances. This time we set in Scotland in the 1500s. We follow the story of Jillian and Grimm as they find their path to love through old family secrets and a plot to destroy Grimm and his heritage.
Just like the first this is very well written. The romance scenes are nice and hot and steamy. The build-up to the climax is great but the climax itself seems to be short and sweet.
I found the interesting thing about this book is that just when you think the story should end it continues on and leads you to the next generation which I found to be quite lovely.
Definitely a book I would recommend to anyone who likes a good romance novel. ( )

THE SCREAMING HAD TO STOP. He couldn’t endure it another minute, yet he knew he was helpless to save them. His family, his clan, his best friend Arron, with whom he’d ridden the heather fields only yesterday, and his mother—oh, but his mother was another story; her murder had presaged this … this … barbaric …
Quotations
Hear me Odin, I summon the Beserker! I Gravrael Roderick Icarus McIllioch, offer my life - nay, my soul - for vengeance. I command the Berserker!
Politely inquire? You call a barely grunted and entirely put-upon-sounding 'what' a polite inquiry? A 'what' that says 'how dare you invade my space with your pitiful sounds? A 'what' that says, 'could you please go die somewhere else, peahen?
