Hunter S. Thompson meets Fahrenheit 451. In a somewhat dystopian future filled with scents that record everything and microbes that convert people to other species, a semi-deranged, drug-addicted gonzo journalist returns to the metropolis he once covered with foul-mouthed wit and facts. Quite funny and often disgustingly so, it's a great series. ( )

A punk Iliad contained in a possible present. Spider Jerusalem is gonna tell you why everything is bullshit, and what you can do to hurt it. ( )

A wordy but worthy comic. Even better than i remember but perhaps the current political/social climate has something to do with that. ( )

So fucking awesome! If awesomeness could be condensed into six books, then this would be it!

Warren Ellis makes some eye-opening observations through Spider Jerusalem. The one that struck me most was this:

There's one hole in every revolution, large or small. And it's one word long -- people. No matter how big the idea they all stand under, people are small and weak and cheap and frightened. It's people that kill every revolution. (Issue 3)

He also captures the essence of journalism in a brief but astute conversation:

"The point is, the only real tools we have are our eyes and our heads. It's not the act of seeing with our own eyes alone; it's correctly comprehending what we see."

"Treating life as an autopsy."

"Got it. Laying open the guts of the world and sniffing the entrails, that's what we do." (Issue 4)

I've never been so amazed by a comic series. Transmetropolitan is off to a good start! ( )

Ends just as it's starting to get interesting, but I guess that's what the later collections are for. Robertson is a perfect match for this with garish, hyper colored scenes one after the other. ( )
