... how people perceive her. Believe me, no teen is worried what other teens will think as they are reading Twilight, Uglies, Eragon or what have you. Here's some of her quotes to back me up: "Oh, that won't be for me," I say to myself, "I am not a young adult." What I don't ...

... was pretty eh - the ending was a total cop-out and the character wasn't very likable. Read The Adoration of Jenna Fox or Uglies instead. Started The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins today, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I keep hearing good things about the book, so here's hoping ...

48. Pretties by Scott Westerfeld Sequel to Uglies (see book 38 above) and unfortunately, not quite as good in my opinion. Without going into too much detail, I was completely thrown off by the whole Andrew Simpson Smith, lost in the woods section. I'm assuming that's going to come up again ...

... I think. Relevent. Reading Skinned now, by Robin Wasserman. Enjoying it, though it seems like a mash-up of Uglies and The Adoration of Jenna Fox, which are both hard books to go up against.

Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld

... way! I don't even think it's just about character vs. plot, it's about good plot vs. action-movie plot. I really enjoyed Uglies because of the concept, but I thought the plot was sort of weak. In particular--SPOILERS for those who haven't read it--I felt like Tally destroyed the heart ...

41. Uglies - Scott Westerfeld Finally caved and read this one. I liked the ending. There's something about Westerfeld's writing style that just rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's the plot vs. character debacle. I'm a character person, he's a plot man. Oh well. I'm gonna start Pretties now, ...

38. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld Probably the last thing I need right now is to start another series...but I couldn't help myself! This is about a futuristic world where everyone gets an operation to become "pretty" when they turn sixteen. Unfortunately, there's more to the operation than meets ...

I'm going to soon finish Uglies which I'm loving and then it's on to one of my other library books - either The Garden Of Last Days, A Thousand Splendid Suns or The Time Traveler's Wife. I just hope I can keep renewing these until I finish them, and that no one has a hold on any of them!

70. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld (425) 71. Pretties by Scott Westerfeld (370) 72. Specials by Scott Westerfeld (372) Got the box set for my birthday. I adore these books. 73. Extras by Scott Westerfeld (417) 74. The Last Slice of Rainbow by Joan Aiken (144)

Wake by Lisa McMann Uglies was already mentioned but I also liked Pretties and Specials by Scott Westerfeld. I have Extras and So Yesterday in my TBR pile also.

I just started Uglies by Scott Westerfeld.

That first line sticks in one's mind. I'm pretty sure it's from Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

At first I thought it was a Vonnegut but it turns out...(I believe) to be Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. Yes?

24. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld This story reminded me of a cross between A Brave New World and The Giver. It was hard for me to stay interested in the story as sometimes the details were a little too detailed. It’s considered a YA book, but it seemed a little younger.

I was able to search your catalog for search terms and I found the book each time (and it didn't bring up Uglies or Specials). I'm on FF2 and XP. Have you tried refreshing, relogging in, all that good stuff?

... "Babylon", "Babylon,", and "Persepolis", and Titles/Authors for "Burkert", and every time it brought up exactly two books: Uglies and Specials. So I found the book by sorting on Date Started and tried to enter a finished date. It didn't stick, despite repeated attempts. The catalogue is ...

... 19 year old has too many books in her TBR pile right now, but wants to borrow The book, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Uglies. The 12 year old has friends who love the book and talk about it often, making her very curious about it. I might buy her a copy for her birthday. :) #393 ...

... loved the Thessaly story, but wasn't impressed with the others. Scott Westerfeld - Extras A continuation to the Uglies trilogy. I really liked this book, and found Aya much more likable than Tally.

I just finished readin Uglies and I loved it! I am now moving on to Pretties I can wait to see what happens

... I haven't seen him for days! #682 That is perhaps the most interesting collection of books ever bought at one time. The Uglies series and Proust?! That's awesome! Edited to see if I could get author touchstones to work, I couldn't.

... : It's very sad. #678 - #680: LOL! :) #682 Ms_Bella: *gasps* I want your books! Er, two of them! I loved Uglies - it was a great book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. :)

#263 bib: I hope it wasn't for anything like being sick? Congrats on your reading! :) I just finished reading Uglies. I'm still deciding what I'll read next.

I just finished Scott Westerfeld's Uglies. After hearing in mentioned around the HE and at work, I had to try it. My biggest disappointment is that I didn't buy any of the other books in the series. Right away I could tell this book takes place somewhere different than our world ...

(17) Uglies - Scott Westerfeld (F) I enjoyed this rather dystopian novel & raced through to see how it would end, and despite the fact that I have already put the subsequent novels on hold at the library, I still think that I would say that this book was just ok. Really interesting ...

42. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld This is about a future world where there is a surgery at 16 to make everyone pretty. From the age of 12 you are an "ugly". This book centers around Tally whose best friend Peris is now a new pretty and she is still ugly. She meets Shay who isn't sure she wants ...

>31 You should read Uglies; however, for this group, you should probably pick one by a woman. ;) (I keep forgetting too whenever I think of ideas)

Assuming I can get it in time off the library's enormous hold list, I might try to do this one with Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. This is a hard theme for me to think up a book for and I do want to read this book.

I have been pleased to discover YA action-packed novels with female protagonists. Westerfeld's Uglies trilogy; Gwyneth Jones' Siberia, and for the slightly younger age, Jeanne Duprau's City of Ember. All also include male characters and the stories are compelling and thoughtful.

I finished Uglies earlier and am now reading Pretties. #131- We read I Capture the Castle for my book club a while back and most people seemed to really enjoy it.

Finished Spud and hated it so much I gave it away. A friend loaned me Uglies, which I finished and really enjoyed. Next up I might pick up the obvious Pretties or Lord of the Flies, which I somehow never managed to read all through high school or my English degree.

I borrowed Uglies from a friend and really loved it so I picked up Pretties, the next book in the series. Will probably buy my own copy of Uglies before the week is over.
