I recently discovered this book and love it. It doesn't really have a plot, but flows gently through short chapters describing the day to day events in the life of Mrs Apple. She is an older lady who lives alone on a small English farmstead with her animals: cats Fat George and Shoosh, Pekenese dogs Tooty and Black Dog, and assorted chickens. Sometimes funny, always gentle and sweet, this is such a "comfort food" kind of story that I enjoyed even as an adult. It would be delightful to read aloud to a young child. ( )
