This book gives the basic step by step instructions on how construction workers build a building. From the foundation to the finishing touches. It also has a bunch of information tabs to label everything they are using.

Personal Reaction:
This book is definitely very informational. Every page gives a description of what is going on. I like the way the book labels almost everything that you see on the page. You get an idea of what different things are actually called and what they actually use to make a building. I know children love books like these!

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1) This book would be great if a teacher was doing a unit on building or construction, even with math. It gives basic instructions for building. The class would tell the teacher what they think might come next, and even count all the different tools.
2) This book could also be used for the student to do their own building project. They could be given materials and follow the steps in this book. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0698118200, Mass Market Paperback)

A new building is going up, and that means lots of noise-and lots of work. First the site is boarded off, then the construction begins. Soon the scaffolding goes up, next the building's skeleton is made, and finally it's time for the walls and the ceilings to be put in. With its simple text, labeled machinery, and cut-paper artwork, this book is a perfect introduction to the ins and outs of construction for curious children.

"This is clearly a book that will provide hours of rapt concentration and finger-pointing." (Booklist)
