I would read this book to kindergarten or first grade. The book is about the alphabet and letter x runs away because no on ever really uses him and he feels left out. So the rest of the alphabet go to look for him. When they find him and make him come home he was so happy. When he got back home they were making a birthday cake and the used letter x a lot because they put xoxoxo on the cake to represent love. This book would first be could when working with children with alphabet recognition. The children can point out the letters and some words that the letters are used in. Another good thing about this book is you could dicuss with students how it feels to be left out or not played with alot. I really think that this would be an amazing book for any teacher to have, and I know that the students would love it! ( )This is a great book for kindergarten through second grade. Kindergarteners will love helping read by saying the alphabet letters that are in red and this will help students learn to track print. The mystery and adevnture keeps students engaged in the story. Also the illustrations are great! http://www.audreywood.com/mac_site/cl... This site has more info on Aubrey and her husband Don. "Alphabet Mystery" is a great ABC book for readers who have mastered their ABC's and are enjoying finding them in text. This story is about little x who does not feel like he fits in very well. His owner hardly ever uses him, and he feels very left out. Because of this, he runs away from the rest of the alphabet to a place where he is used more often. His fellow alphabet letters, however, miss him and go to find him. Luckily, they bring him back just in time for his owner's birthday party, where he was used more than any other letter. He was XXXX on the cake, which means hugs! This is a great book to use with young children when discussing individual letters and which letters we use most often. Activities for this book, along with other books by Audrey Wood, can be found at www.audreywood.com. Kids love this book! Little "x" has gone missing and all of the other letters have to find him. The story is loaded with things to look for and notice - great read aloud! Alphabet Mystery is a great book. I loved it. There's no X. The alphabet went to look for the X. The X stands for kisses.
