Fowles is my favorite author, so this was a fascinating look at the genesis and antecedents of his first two books: The Collector and The Magus. His novels tend to revolve around the obsessive beginnings of love, and, until he married his first wife Elizabeth, his life did too. He met Elizabeth in Magus-like conditions while teaching at a boys' school in Greece, where she was his best friend's wife. His obsession with her went on for pages and pages, and made the journals most enjoyable. I'm looking forward to Volume II. ( )
