It's about a man named Valentine, who is a prince, who has traveled to a town named Velalisior to investigate a murder. He encounters strange races of people and must also, as prince, make peace between races of people. His investigation is thwart with obstalces but in the end he finds the murderer and brings peace between people that needed that balance and harmony between them.

I've never read a graphic novel such as this and I really liked it. Why I picked it out was the cover showed a mystery to the cover and just looking at the cover had me thinking of knights, castles, princes, trolls and such. It also made me think of the "Lord of the Rings" saga or the Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkein. I also like reading these kinds of novels as well.

I definitely, again, would use this book for older children from 5th grade up to senior years in high school. It brings to the imagination of not only the art involved but the language used to write this novel. I feel this also can teach morals, good versus evil, virtues and so on. Great book!! ( )

A grisly murder has taken place in the ruins of an ancient city on the peaceful world of Majipoor and the Pontifex Valentine has arrived to investigate the crime. But as Valentine and his companions delve deeper into the mystery, they discover that these ruins contain secrets much deeper than anyone ever knew... and that the indigenous Metamorphs are holding back information related to their own dark history. Can Valentine and his friends locate the murderer... or did the violent act have something to do with a ritual sacrifice related to the fabled Seventh Shrine?
