I thought this collection of poems was rather hard to read. While some are quite simple, others were confusing and would be difficult for younger children to understand. The illustrations were dull and unimaginative for me.
As an extension, a teacher could show pictures of other zoo animals and have younger children write one-sentence poems to describe them. For older children, the teacher could start a poem about an animal and they could take turns adding a line.
