I am really enjoying this series and I am glad that Bantock continued it past the original trilogy. The story telling is unique, and the artwork beautiful. I am a fan of ephemera and a collector of antique postcards which is how I started reading the series to begin with.

Highly recommended to lovers of ephemera and old things, and those who enjoy fantasy and mystical mysteries. ( )

A feast for the eyes. A wonderful work of art and immagination every bit as good as Bantock's "Griffin and Sabine." ( )

I know I must be over the edge--but when these first came out, I was absolutely breathless for the next in the series to appear, and I just read those letters again and again--and now I treasure them as if they are from friends. So if I have lost my mind--I don't care. These are the ultimate love letters not only preserved but beautifully presented. ( )

A beautiful book that adds a new dimmension to the Griffin and Sabine story. This definitely isn't a stand-alone work, but for those already familiar with this world and willing to commit to the next two volumes, it's pure pleasure. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com (ISBN 0811831620, Hardcover)

With a fanciful combination of postcards and letters, author Nick Bantock takes you on a romantic and suspenseful tour of an imagined world. The Gryphon is the delightful follow-up to the wildly popular Griffin & Sabine trilogy. This sequel doesn't disappoint; it's as quixotic and cloaked in mystery as the trilogy, replete with similarly captivating foldouts and handwritten letters. Each illustration is intricately drawn with special attention paid to the tiniest details, like the faded postmarks on exotic stamps. Old-fashioned letters create an atmosphere of adventure, surrounding you with colorful images of ancient symbols. The correspondence between the four players flies off to real and mythical lands conjuring up dark forces and love affairs. It is impossible not to want to know what happens next. If you were charmed by Griffin and Sabine, then it's absolutely unthinkable to miss The Gryphon. --J.P. Cohen
