The story was very sweet, funny, and silly. The illustrations are incredibly adorable and really go along with the story. The cooks uniform is entirely made of recipe cards, several of the plates have food sayings on them, and the new King has tiny pieces of candy wrappers hidden in his crown.
This is one of those stories that helps teach children that not only does candy ruin your appetite but really helps them understand to respect other people. The cook worked so hard to prepare all these meals for the kind and he just threw them across the room for Max to eat.
It was a great story that delivers a message in a fun and entertaining way.
