Even though Skulduggery Pleasant has been kicked out of the Sanctuary, he can't trust his replacement to do the job right when Teleporters are being targeted and murdered. Skulduggery and his fourteen-year-old trainee, Valkyrie, take the case unofficially. The stakes are huge. Someone is trying to bring back The Faceless Ones, whose return will be disastrous for humans and magical folk alike. With their trademark sense of humor and penchant for running into dangerous situations head first, the duo join old friends and make unusual alliances to prevent the end of the world. ( )Skulduggery Pleasant, the skeleton in a suit with a suave sophisticated cultured air about him, goes into action again with his 14 year old sidekick Valkyrie Cain. Having been fired from the Sanctuary in the last book, Pleasant and Cain are for the first time on the outside looking in. They have to suffer watching an inept and stupid detective take their place who couldn't detect anything even if it came up to him and bopped him on the head. Added to which, Pleasant is getting some serious strife from Kenspeckle about putting a 14 year old child into danger. In this book, Teleporters are being murdered one by one and no-one knows why. It gets to the point where there is only one Teleporter left - a young teenager who is cocky, arrogant and refuses any help from the Sanctuary. Pleasant and Cain start to figure out why the Teleporters are being targeted but neither the Sanctuary or their inept detective are interested in listening. When they do find out what is going on, they link it to the Faceless Ones, a race of monsters who are waiting at a gate to be let back into the world. If that happens, it's the end of the world as we know it. But the duo are hampered by the fact that a spy is in the Sanctuary feeding information back to the enemy. They have to find the spy as well as stop the gate from opening to let the Faceless Ones back to rule over humanity. The ending is a big shock and sets us all up for the next book. It shows that the Pleasant series is far from over and the best may be yet to come. I really like this series, funny and clever, but this is not my favourite. Great read, this series is fantastic as not only do I enjoy them but it has got some boys in my class reading more as well! I think this is an awesome book. I have read all 4 of them but there are more to come. yeah! This is about Valkyrie Cain and Skulduggery Pleasant going to fight evil, once again. It has a good but sad twist at the end. So i cant wait til the next book to see wether valkyrie cain gets skulduggery pleasant back. These books are for 12 year olds and upwards. I absolutely love these books! no reviews | add a review
