That's what I felt about it, too, Sally. The Memory of Running didn't pass the 50 page test or whatever arbitrary number I'm using now.

I'm plodding through The memory of Running by Ron McLarty. Is a group read and for that reason I am perservering - but is not lighting any fires for me.

14. 11/15/09 The Memory of Running by Ron McLarty, fiction overall book: 5/5 I loved this book, I read it in two days because I could not put it down. It's about an overweight, down-on-his-luck, middle-aged man named Smithson "Smithy" Ide who in the course of a week loses his entire ...

For Rhode Island, I recommend The Memory of running by Ron McLarty. A bittersweet and sad story of how mental illness affects a family, and a kind of accidental roadmovie across America - on a bike. It was my first one down for this challenge and probably a big reason why I took it on: "Well, ...

I can recommend the bittersweet The memory of running by Ron McLarty. Half of it is a roadmovie (on bicycle, no less) across America, but half of it is flashbacks from the main character's upbringing in Providence.

Okay, I got my first state down! And I'm pretty proud it's not one of the most obvious ones: Jag minns att jag sprang (The memory of running) by Ron McLarty, representing Rhode Island. Rated it 4 stars. Half of this book is a roadmovie as Smithy Ade, in an accidental journey of self-discover ...

#16 -- The Memory Of Running -- Finally a book I enjoyed! I listened to this as an audio book, and at the beginning wasn't at all sure I was going to like it. After the first 45 minutes or so, I really started to get into it. It is a novel that reads like a memoir. The story of a 43 year ...

Here's my inventory: http://www.bookmooch.com/m/inventory/twynnie The latest book I added was The Memory of Running, which I really enjoyed. Anyway, everything must go by the end of this month at the latest as I'm going to be moving house and I need to shed some weight!

Has anyone read The Memory of Running, the new selection for Reading Across Rhode Island? I have the book, but haven't read it yet... I read Shadow Divers, the last selection and really enjoyed it (even though I didn't think it would interest me).
