ParadoxicalRae in Book talk : Vampire books (Oct 15, 2009, 5:43pm)

Dracula by Bram Stoker is a classic. Thirsty by M. T. Anderson is a YA vampire book, it's also quite good. I Am Legend by Richard Matheson is very good, though if I remember right it's a short story. I really enjoyed Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist, but it's ...

... time) scene that surprised me. I won't be reading The Wood Wife. I'm behind on Dracula and from there I'll read either I Am Legend or Frankenstein. I got tickets for the Legend Night in Sleepy Hollow, NY in October. I'm very excited!

... Glass to read either Dracula or the complete Poe first, any dissent? That's fine with me. Luxx and mstrust, As for I Am Legend, it won't make the list this year for me because I've already read it. And it is quite different than the movie, better I think because of the depth of the ...

I actually meant to read I am Legend after seeing the movie, although I heard they're completely different. Might be a good one to add to my personal list, even if it doesn't make it here.

... of Seven Gables anyway. I also have The Woman in White on my October TBR pile. Others on my pile are Frankenstein, I am Legend, Doctor Faustus, Shutter Island and The Book of Lost Things.

#200 divinenanny, have you read I am Legend yet? If you liked World War Z I think you would like that one. It's a pretty quick read. You will want something else to go on to within a day or two.

... For those of you who don't know, Marvel is doing a great adaptation of this series, it's totally worth a look. 4. I Am Legend, by Richard Matheson To be fair I liked the movie (more than Omega Man, and not quite as much as The Last Man on Earth), but the best part of the book ...

Essa in Book talk : Short Story recommendation (Jul 10, 2009, 12:41pm)

Richard Matheson might be a good choice, also. He's another sci-fi-/horror writer (author of classics like I Am Legend and The Incredible Shrinking Man as well as some of the old Twilight Zone scripts). And, if you like him (not everyone does), H. P. Lovecraft's œuvre was almost ...

... Only a couple movies have done humans right: Toy Story, but it was set in a Cartoon-World, so it doesn't really count. I Am Legend pulled it off successfully, since all of the Rabies Zombies were CGI. The graphics, combined with the excellent directing, acting, and writing, made for a ...

Oh my, and there are actually three versions of I Am Legend on film, only one with that title: one stars Charlton Heston as The Omega Man and there is an even earlier version. Curiously enough, the closest to the storyline is the latest, which made it far more interesting to me.

#34 & #42 I'm also with you on I Am Legend - I read it years before I saw the film, which usually would mean I could accept plot alterations a bit better, but I couldn't believe they would even give this film the same name - it bears almost no relation to the book at all... I felt the ...

#34 I'm also in agreement with I am legend - I read it last year and couldn't believe the movie - it was so wrong.

I've read on the beach, level 7, alas babylon, red alert, and seen many of the movies. I've seen Omega man (all three version, actually), Fail Safe, Dr. Strangelove, Planet of the Apes, and the original Rollerball On a hopeful note, I read Ecotopia, but there has to be ...

I totaly agree with you on I am Legend. One of my pet peeves is good books being made into bad movies :)

Nice review of I am Legend. I read it a couple of months ago and was also impressed with it. It's a book that sticks with you for a long time after the last page is turned.

15. I am Legend by Richard Matheson (****) So, so, so, so much better than the movie. I now see why diehard fans of the book hated the movie, which is like the bastard step-child of the book. The two have only one thing in common: Robert Neville is the last man on earth after everyone ...

Watched I am Legend tonight and was really impressed. An amazing piece of science fiction cinema. I'll have to hunt down the book. It transcended the "last man alive" sci fi trope that's been done to death. I'd rank "I am Legend" up there with John Carpenter's "The Thing," for sheer cinematic ...

How was I Am Legend? I saw the movie over Christmas. It was pretty good. What I liked most was Will Smith's interaction with the dog and the mannequins, and the things he does to pass the time (like golfing off the wings of a Air Force jet parked on the USS Intrepid). Did you see the movie? ...

I took one off my wishlist with I am legend by Richard Matheson and also invested in The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood and When We Were Bad by Charlotte Mendelson.

I was positively surprised by I am Legend. At first I thought the tone was somewhat too cool, but it fits the story and the character and I could really feel his sense of isolation. I haven't seen the movie - is it worth it?

I am Legend is tentatively on my list as well, but I'm wary because I don't like horror (massive understatement) and I can't tell if it's going to be horror-scary or not.

I am Legend is on my list, too! I had no idea it was based on a book. I should have googled it. We're all interested in it because it has Will Smith AND vampires. :o) The book has good reviews here on LT. I'll have to get it.

I've got I Am Legend and Sweeney Todd on my list. Also National Treasure 2, but that's not exactly literary...8^}

I really liked Hell House (although it's pretty textbook haunted house). I was underwhelmed, however, by I Am Legend. I think it's just a matter of taste.
