Not normally the type of book I read, but two friends were praising it highly and loaned it to me. Quite an enjoyable read ( )

There's a little mystery, a thought provoking, romance and very good read. ( )

3.5/5 - easy to read but dragged on for too long. the reveal of what Alice forgot was somehow rushed and anticlimactic. “young” alice was also more like 19, not 29. ( )

Alice falls off a Peoloton bike and hits her head. Besides suffering a concussion, she also ends up with amnesia. She finds she cannot the past 10 yrs. From there she must accept the loss and learn what she has forgotten as well as deal with her flashbacks of memory. A bit far fetched but a fun read as she comes to see herself in a whole new light. Will she return to being the self-absorbed, about to be divorced mother of three she has become or will she be more accepting of changes and keep her husband and have a more loving relationship with her children. Goodreads: Alice Love is twenty-nine, crazy about her husband, and pregnant with her first child. So imagine Alice?s surprise when she comes to on the floor of a gym and is whisked off to the hospital where she discovers the honeymoon is truly over she?s getting divorced, she has three kids and she?s actually 39 years old. Alice must reconstruct the events of a lost decade, and find out whether it?s possible to reconstruct her life at the same time. She has to figure out why her sister hardly talks to her, and how is it that she?s become one of those super skinny moms with really expensive clothes.Ultimately, Alice must discover whether forgetting is a blessing or a curse, and whether it?s possible to start over.

Crazy premise here: middle aged Mom falls and hits her head and loses 10 years of memories.

It was funny and sweet and had a very slight mystery feel as Alice tries to piece together 10 missing years. Interesting look at relationships (family, friends, spouse) and how they change over time are impacted by other factors and sometimes spin out if control without you even noticing it happen.

I didn't think it was *that* compelling but I found myself unable to close the book for the last 40% of the story and I stayed up far too late finishing the book.

Twenty-nine-year-old Alice Love is pregnant with her first child, adores her husband, Nick, and has never set foot inside a spinning studio. Thirty-nine-year-old Alice Love suffers a sudden fall in her Friday spin class, wakes up with a splitting headache, and finds out she has three children and is in the middle of custody proceedings. Without any concrete memories of the past 10 years, Alice tries to figure out how her free-spirited 29-year-old self became a volunteer-coordinating, spin-class-attending 39-year-old woman. What Alice Forgot is an often funny, sometimes heartrending, deeply personal portrait of a woman attempting to unravel her own mystery.

Epigraph
Life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quickly you hardly catch it going. - Tennessee Williams
Marriage is an ordeal. - Joseph Campbell

For Adam
First words
She was floating, arms outspread, water lapping her body, breathing in a summery fragrance of salt and coconut.
Quotations
Early love is exciting and exhilarating. It's light and bubbly. Anyone can love like that. But love after three children, after separation and near divorce - after you've hurt each other and forgiven each other, bored each other, after you've seen the worst and the best - well that sort of love is ineffable. It deserves its own word.

Book description
Alice Love, having woken up on the gym floor and been rushed to the hospital with a head injury, believes she is twenty-nine, expecting her first baby, and madly in love with her husband, but, after realizing she has forgotten ten years of her life and is actually thirty-nine, she is forced to try and piece together what occurred over the past decade to result in her marriage and life not being as she had hoped it would be.
Haar geheugenverlies is in ieder geval onvergetelijk!
