I just couldn't get further into this book. Seemed a bit slow moving. Had several significant events, but it took nearly 100 pages to explain these events. Lot of gunfights, explosions, and shooting. This always comes with unrealistic action and predictability. Just didn't seem to move along as quickly. Perhaps its just me. Lack of patience. I don't know. Moving on. ( )

There's a nugget of something intriguing here and the book is fast-paced, but ultimately the cliched characters, excessive telling (instead of showing) and an an unbelievable Marty Stu hero make this a painful read. ( )

A great little action adventure tale that draws heavily on many of its predecessors in the same genre but still manages to keep the pages turning. ( )

With his well-written and focused debut novel "The Ark", Boyd Morrison makes his case for a place on your bookshelf between James Rollins and Douglas Preston. Equal parts action adventure and biblical thriller, "The Ark" follows archeologist Dilara Kenner and former combat engineer Tyler Locke as the race to save the world from the destructive secret that lies hidden within Noah's Ark. With a cinematic scope and tightly plotted premise, this book is the perfect companion for an afternoon by the pool or a long cross-country flight to Los Angeles. A decent techno-thriller, in which a beautiful and brilliant archaeologist teams with a former military specialist-turned-engineer to thwart the plans of a madman to kill all the world's population, save 300 chosen by himself, using the same deadly scourge that was retrieved from the remains of Noah's Ark. Not a lot of innovation in the characters here and how they fit neatly into familiar thriller archetypes, but it doesn't really detract. The premise is intriguing, the action tense and fast-paced, and the Old Testament connection is plausibly presented. I'm coming to enjoy techno-thrillers as a kind of guilty pleasure, and this is on the good side of the bell curve. ( )
