It's hard to read a story written by a friend objectively - but this is a very good story. I'm not generally a fan of murder mysteries, but his story had many layers - stories in stories - that made me attach to the characters. Comisario Miguel Fortuanato is a recent widower near retirement with the Buenos Aries police department. Police corruption is inherent in the system, and though he managed to stay clean for many years, Fortunato had also succumed to the lure of extra money - especially in the years of his wifes' illness. She would not accept any money that might be illgotten, but chose to look the other way and believe her husband to be the man she'd always thought hew was. Fortunato is a man greatly conflicted by who he has become.

"they say a good marraige takes one out of the fire. One has someone to make love to, who knows what one wants without the need for rituals and the wondering"
