I'm a happy fan of Sylviane Donnio's I'd Really Like to Eat a Child, so I was pleased to discover that the illustrator, Dorothee de Monfreid has her own book translated into English. With sparky colors and bold lines, she tells the story of a little boy in a dark forest who scares away the dangerous creatures with a little help from a friend.

Verdict: The spare, exuberant text is full of wonderful noises and children will be breathless in anticipation as the little boy escapes from the dangerous animals and makes his way home to a satisfying conclusion.

"Dark Night" is about a little boy who wonders into the forest on a very dark night. He stumbles onto some very scary creatures and he hides behind a tree. In this tree he finds a secret door that leads into a the house of Rabbit. Rabbit decided to help the boy get home so they dress up like a monster and scare the other creatures of the forest away. The boy and the rabbit share hot chocolate to celebrate making it to the house safe and scaring the other animals. Story about bravery, working together, and friendship. ( )

A little boy named Felix tries to walk through the woods at night, and has to find a way to get by the ferocious creatures. By French author Dorothee de Monfreid, this is a good read for kindergarten age students, that teaches them about overcoming fear through teamwork. ( )

Everyone has fears, but the real question is how many people would actually build up the courage to face their fears? They always say when you can face your fear, you will overcome it. Sometimes it takes someone to help you along your journey of facing your fears to give you enough courage to get through it. The main character in "Dark Night" experiences facing his fear when he meets a rabbit. The rabbit helps him disguise himself that way he can actually frighten what he is scared of so he can find his way back home. This book is excellent for children to understand that friends are special and those who stick by your side to help you through the rough patches, are the ones who are true friends. Sometimes, all a person needs is a little shove from someone else to get them through something. ( )
