A lovely, leatherbound edition of the combined novels, Wicked and Son of a Witch by Gregory McGuire. Just added Bel Canto, The Namesake, and Son of a Witch.

... Wicked too many times to dare read it again. I think I made myself tired of it. I may skip rereading that one, reread Son of a Witch since I only read it once right after it's release, and then read book three, A Lion Among Men. Not for a while yet, of course. ... Lost however would make the top ten list of the worst books I ever read. I haven't been able to bring myself to read Son of a Witch yet because of this, though I've had it since the day it came out. I loved Wicked - both the book and the musical - so I bought this sequel as soon as it came out. But somehow, it got put at the bottom of my TBR pile. When I heard that the 3rd book in this series is coming out next ... ...oops... angelrose beat me to it!
>256 I thought Maguire's Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister was on par with Wicked, which I loved. But Son of a Witch did not light my fire. 210 - Wicked was good. Then try the sequel Son of a Witch ... wondered if they'll produce a second movie for the series (books 4-6). What do you think? :)

I didn't like Son of a Witch as much as Wicked, either. My sister who has read both books feels the same way about these books.

I'm jealous! I've wanted to read the ... I read son of a witch I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as good as wicked (I just found out that a third book in the series is due this fall). I think that the main character just wasn't as interesting to me for a good chunk of the book, but better toward the end, so maybe the next book will be ... ... been too busy reading/writting the Hogwarts Express to read much lately, but I did fianlly finish Inkheart and started son of a witch I just couldn't get into Son of a Witch, and I really tried to!
I did enjoy Wicked, but my motivation was reading it before the show came to London. I probably wouldn't have bothered had it not been for the musical.
I'm just going to soldier on with my TBR shelves over the coming months! Hmm, I've tried reading both Wicked and Son of a Witch and didn't like either. I've pretty much given up on Maguire. Feeling like I should have liked Wicked, I even tried the book on CD after not getting into the paper version. Didn't help.
Our library only has stuff for kids and teens, ... I think we have it laying around the house somewhere. I think I never read it for the same reason I never read Son of a Witch. I'll have to look into it....when I run out of things to read.....maybe sooner! inkheart is a very slow book. I've read the first chapter of son of a witch and it's easier to get sucked into the story. I'm pretty sure I"m going to read son of a witch next, why should it be something short? Ah Son of a Witch. I bought it the day it came out because I love Wicked but I've been afraid to read it because I hate Lost and am ambivalent about Mirror Mirror. *sigh* I'm getting close to the end of inkheart and I think I will read son of a witch next. I think I shall be reading son of a witch I've been thinking about rereading all 7 HP books, I may read inkspell I want to read Princess Bride I also have a whole bunch of unread books and books of letta's that I want to read. And I am currently reading What-The-Dickens: The Story of a Rogue Tooth Fair ... Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire ... day before yesterday. Definately not one of my fave books... even though I went over to BookMooch and wishlisted Son of a Witch... well I gotta know what happens next! /-:) I'll still be reading Life Before Man, Son of a Witch, and Song of Solomon...because I procrastinated this week...BIG time...haha
Once I finish those I'll be reading Fasting Girls and Anatomy of Anorexia ... - I don't, but I know some people do.
I liked Gregory Maguire reading Leaping Beauty, but not so much reading Son of a Witch.
Frank McCourt reading Angela's Ashes was nice, since you got to hear the proper accents, and he sung the singing bits.

Life Before Man and Son of a Witch are FABULOUS, though I have yet to finish them.

On the strength of Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, I will continue to buy and/or read pretty ... I loved Wicked so I when I saw Son of a witch in the bookshop I had to buy it. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. To me, nothing much happens and it reminded me of the middle part of LOTR in that respect, like the second book of a trilogy. I agree about Son of a Witch:a novel. When I read it, I got the impression that he ended it that way on purpose so he could do a third one if he decided to later on. ... heard anything about a third book either - but I hope there is going to be one. I would buy it.
I did not like the way Son of a Witch:a Novel ended. I thought that it left a lot of things unanswered and I was left wanting more. To be honest, I'm only a bit into Son of a Witch: A Novel - I bought it just as my semester was starting, so I can't say how I feel about it in relation to Wicked. I'm personally a fan of the little bits of social commentary that get thrown in, like this from the beginning of Son of a Witch:A ... I thought Wicked was really interesting. Anyone read Son of a Witch and without giving anything away, was it good? I only saw one post on that. ... I HAD to read this book. I bought it soonafter, and the rest is history.
Love Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Son of a Witch. I have a horrible confession as a Maguire fan, though. I've had Mirror, Mirror on my bookshelf since the day it came out and still haven't gotten around ... Hi, I'm ArmyAngel. I've read Wicked, Son of a Witch, and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (Confessions being my favorite). I also own Mirror, Mirror and Lost but haven't had a chance to read them yet.
I'm hoping to see "Wicked: the musical" this April. For a touring schedule, you can ... ... Wicked last year and loved it. Not at all what I expected. I would love to see the musical. Do they tour? I haven't read Son of a Witch yet but am definitely looking forward to it. I also have Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister but haven't gotten around to reading that yet either. I'd like ... After I finished Son of a Witch, I was puzzled over what kind of effect the rain would have on Liir's green newborn daughter. Here's a direct quote of the last two paragraphs:

The day Son of a Witch was released, I rushed to B&N, and the cashier was so excited about it's release that she gave me her B&N membership discount. I have as of yet to reread it. ... Loved most of Wicked and Son of a Witch, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister is my favorite of his books, haven't read Mirror, Mirror or Lost yet.
Wicked the musical is coming to Houston (in April I think), which is just a couple hours away from where I live, I can't wait to see it! At the moment I am reading Son of a Witch and Wolves of Calla. I am debating on whether to read American Gods next or start on The Chronicles of Narnia or Dark Elf Trilogy. I also picked up Marley and Me as a nice quick read. There are so many others I need to get started on though. I loved Wicked, found Mirror, Mirror to be sorely lacking, dropped Son of a Witch after a chapter but I was tired so I'll have to go back to it, Lost and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister are sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me. Just started reading Son of a Witch, but I can't really get into it like I did with Wicked. Off the top of my head, I think I'd say Son of a Witch. It just summed everything up so nicely. ... I felt it lacked a coherent plot line and I couldn't care about any of the characters.

I am reading Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire. He is the author of Wicked, and Son of a Witch. I find his books to be a great surprise. Not at all what I expected. Very thought provoking. If you are looking for something very different, with well drawn characters, ... ... Jar read by Maggie Gyllenhaal.) There are books that are read by their author (Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver; Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire; Coraline by Neil Gaiman.) Most are read by voice actors/readers (most of whom probably do some other acting as well). There are some ... ... so that I can start Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay, which I'm really looking forward to.
Last week I finished up Son of a Witch, and I'm currently listening to The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. So far, I'm really enjoying the book, although it's too creepy for me to listen to ... ... but I need about six more diagrams in the front of the book to be able to get the subtleties.
I'm also listening to Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire. I wasn't really taken with Wicked, and although Son of a Witch is very similar, I'm enjoying it more - maybe because I'm listening ...
