This is a curious mixture of biography and novel, lacking any documentation. The interpretations of Anne Boleyn have varied over the years, and this belongs to the school that relied heavily on the letters of Chapuys, the Imperial ambassador to Henry VIII, and is fairly standard in its conclusions. In the 1980s, Eric Ives and Retha Warnicke argued in their books on Anne that Chapuys writings are contradictory, and had been used tendentiously. It does not necessarily follow that the most recent interpretation is the best, but, particularly since it lacks documentation, this book does not do a good job of making the contrary case. Recommended only for people reading exhaustively on this topic. ( )
