One of Clancy's better books, although a bit long it has some real excitement in the storyline. ( )Great spy action - Ryan gets a mission to extract important mole within soviet spy network. Reommended. Jack Ryan stars in this Clancy thriller. The top CIA operative deep within the Kremlin must be rescued before he is identified and terminated by the KGB. I'll do the same review for all Clancy's novels because they're all pretty much the same. Very long, very detailed, and after a while, very repetitive. If you stop after just a few of his books you'd probably give them 4 or 5 stars, but beyond that they start to grate. Especially where Jack Ryan is involved. I mean, Clancy spends hundreds of pages getting his details just right, the settings perfect etc., then he has Ryan dodging more bullets than James Bond! I finally threw my hands up and surrendered when Ryan becomes President. I can't remember what piece of crap that was in. I've given three stars as a compromise between my reactions when reading my first Clancy (brilliant) and last Clancy (doorstop). This is one of my all-time favorite books!! Great action and plot with a wonderfully surprising ending. Read this while I was in mid-20's. Very good story line that kept me immersed in the pages for hours on end. Classic Clancy about the race for superior defense. 2931 The Cardinal of the Kremlin, by Tom Clancy (read 24 Nov 1996) This is the 4th Clancy book I have read and is I think the best of the four. The title character is a high-ranking Russian who for 30 years has been spying for the U.S. It is an intensely exciting book and when one gets into it it seems reading it is the most important thing to do. It is sheer enjoyment, and the fact it is not great writing never occurred to me when I was caught up in the story. I guess the plot is as fantastic as the other Clancy books I've read, but it doesn't at first blush appear so. A fantastic, fantastic read. Trade paperback, An Advance Reading Copy. Not For Resale. Downtown Very good, fast paced action right from the beggining. No lengthy boring setting up of conspiracy theories and unnessesary introductions and descriptions of characters. Just lots of action. Ok, 95% of the characters I knew from other Clancy novels, so there is familiarity already. He still is the best in this type of thriller. The second best Clancy book |
