Work detailsDebt of Honor by Tom Clancy (1994)
Liked the book, but it is too long ago to write a proper review. Will add one after re-reading. JACK RYAN One of Clancy's best books, I think. Although the basic premise (Japanese business takes over government and attacks US) is somewhat unlikely, it's very realistically described and as usual the writing is compulsively page-turning . The various sub-plots are all skilfully brought together and there's always a human face to the scenarios. Also less bad language than you sometimes get with Clancy's books. The finale is a set-up for the next book, Executive Orders. Very prescient in parts about terror tactics. Probably as good as something of this enormous scope AND minute detail can be. Gets bogged down in multi-POV action setpieces, but many of the sequences are really thrilling and well-written. Clancy's hero Jack Ryan fights to defend the USA against economic sabotage from the East. Called out of retirement to serve as the new National Security Advisor, Ryan soon realizes that the problems of peace are as complex as those of war. no reviews | add a review
