... but they were the ones where I didn't recognize how little he knew of what he was basing them on. By the time he published Timeline, however, I knew a LOT about the period he thrust his time travelers into. Ouch! However, it's not EARLY as awful as what he did to Beowulf in Eaters of the Dea ... >6 Ha! I was going to suggest Timeline by Michael Crichton, but see you've already read it (and rated it the same as I did!).
The only other book in my library with that tag is The Time Traveler's Wife. But two others are on my wishlist: Time's Arrow by Martin Amis and A Wrinkle in Time ... Oh, please! Timeline in the same list as Don Quixote???? Ivanhoe and The Black Arrow are at least good reads, but Timeline is really BAD historical fiction in the part his time travelers are sent back to. Great feature, Tim! Though I do have a question about what constitutes "high quality". For example, Timeline has a "high quality" cover with original dimensions of 95x151. 113. Timeline by Michael Crichton - a good book, but I liked the movie better.
114. The City of Falling Angels by John Berendt - I thought it would solely focus on the burning of the Fenice, but felt the book meanered around Venice for the longest time before getting to the point.
115. Th ... I like what I've read of Crichton's: Jurassic Park, Lost World, and Timeline. Haven't tried Congo. You're not making me impatient to start it, either, meg. ;) #43 In regards to Timeline while it didn't give a good picture of medieval life (not that it set out to give a picture of medieval life) it did give a picture of how someone from the modern time wouldn't want to live there. I loved Eifelheim - really felt (as a non-historian, at least) that it gave a good picture of medieval life. Timeline - not so much. ... Assassins Jerry B. Jenkins 752 copies
4. Star Wars: Episode 1, The Phantom Menace, Terry Brooks 748 copies
5. Timeline, Michael Crichton 2,462 copies
6. Hearts in Atlantis, Stephen King 2,102 copies
7. Apollyon, Jerry B. Jenkins 794 copies
8. The Girl Who Loved T ... I didn't mind Timeline. It wasn't my favorite but it was a decent read. Now Witches of Eastwick I hated. It is one of the few books that I never finished and that's saying something because I'm a sinker!!! The Witches of Eastwick, The boyfriend, The Rising Storm, Harpy Thyme, Timeline - which I haven't bought twice now, Druid of Shanarra, a Jerle Shannara book, (can't remember which one) - and a random Dune book which wasn't one of the original trilogy. I've been the the charity shop, ... ... theme, some notable ones that I can recall off the top of my head are: The Virgin Blue, The Ghost of Hannah Mendes and Timeline. Normally I love the play and the similarities between the past and the present and how each portion of the tale weaves together the full story.
So I was ... Timeline by Michael Crichton
512 pages
3.5/5 Stars
Entertaining overall, while slow in parts. I love a good time-travel story, and Crichton seems to do well in explaining the how's and why's of this particular mode of travel. Then again, I know nothing about quantum physics. But, ... ... 5/1/2008

Timeline by Michael Crichton The movie of Timeline is pretty dreadful.... There are a few pages of the book I love, though, and I often use them in the classroom in conjunction with a chapter out of Marc Bloch's Feudal Society ("Modes of Feeling and Thought") that deals with some of the ways in which the medieval ... didn't read to see if any one suggested Timeline by Crichton yet -- very cool! Never saw the movie though... ... it better than P&P, S&S AND Emma. If you ever want proof that people have not changed in 200 years, that's where you go.
Timeline by Michael Crichton. COULD NOT put this one down.
There's many more but (while mentioning Harry Potter as well) I will stop there. :D
... durng the 100 years war, where an alein space craft has crash landed in the woods a few mles from the town.
Also Timeline by Michael Crichton which involes the research of the siege of a French castle and the peaple who travel back in time to see what really happen It can certainly go either way.
I would say one of the worst book-to-film adaptations was Michael Crichton's Timeline - auuuuugh. Just.... AUUUUUGH. I read that entire book in two sittings, unable to put it down, crying at the end... and the movie was just horrendous.

Time of the Fourth Horseman by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro
Timeline by Michael Crichton
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle ... a few plot points that go unresolved.
As a side note, I'm wondering if Crichton read any Connie Willis before writing Timeline. There are more than a couple similarities! :-)
Fourpawz2 in 50 Book Challenge : Fourpawz2 trying for 60 (Jul 26, 2007, 12:23pm) No. 38 Timeline by Michael Crichton - Liked the idea of this book before I read it - liked his execution of it not so well. Overall it was o.k., but it seems as though it could have been a better book in someone else's hands. He knows his facts (lots of them), but the characters were very one ... ... by Robin Cook
