I think it is a shame that only people who master Dutch are able to read this book.

It is a book about Dutch and the way it is used in every day life. With all its weirdness and strange rules that you're not aware of untill someone makes you aware of them. The way people say things and mean completely the opposite, the way that sayings are of all times, but all times have different sayings.

The writer is my age and maybe that is one of the reasons that for me the content of this book is so very recognizable and funny.

And, what comes to mind: when we have such a book here, about language and the way people use it, why shouldn't other languages / countries have such a book?
When you do, please recommend it... I mean, when it is in a readable language for me: German, English, Russian. I'd love to see if I can make anything out of it :) ( )

Aardig. Paulien ziet en beschrijft zeker een fors aantal eigenaardigheden en flauwe gebruiken in onze taal. Toch heb ik het niet uitgeluisterd. Vind Pauline te wijzneuzirig over komen en triomfantelijk met haar taal wijsheid en scherpe analyses strooien. Waarschijnlijk meer mijn kift dan terechte kritiek, dus als je van taalgrappen houdt, kun je dit beslist zonder schaamrood aanschaffen en je bij de vele Nederlanders voegen die dit boek aan jan en alleman aanbevelen. Waaronder ongeveer 10x (niet tevergeefs, maar wel onterecht) aan mij. ( )

Wat een 'onwijs gaaf' boek is dit toch 'eigenlijk'. Er wordt je als Nederlander 'zeg maar' steeds een spiegel voorgehouden en nadat je het boek uit hebt gelezen, durf je 'zeg maar''eigenlijk' niets meer te zeggen 'hè'? En, 'als ik even heel eerlijk ben...', dat is 'echt zooo Nederlands!' ( )

Book about language trends in Dutch. Hilarious, if you read Dutch. ( )

Actually i read most of it to the whole family (including two sons of 15 and 13). All of us liked it very much. It is not only a sometimes hilarious and politically non-correct book about how the Dutch (ab)use their language, but also about our social habits. ( )
