I haven't read any Thomas Ligotti. My experience with 'quiet horror' so far has been lots of Lovecraft, Ramsey Campbell's Midnight Sun, Dale Bailey's House Of Bones, T.E.D. Klein's The Ceremonies, Thomas Tryon's Harvest Home and Charles L. ... I was just rereading H.P. Lovecraft's Bloodcurdling Tales this weekend, and lots of his stories take place in Massachusetts. Some of the places are real, and some are fictional. Project Gutenberg Australia and Wikisource have a whole bunch of Lovecraft if you are looking to see what you might like. ... thinking about it when not reading it and wondering if anything like that could be true.
