That was a really good review of The Yiddish Policemen's Union, Bonnie. Next time I'm trying to briefly describe a book I've read, I'll see if you've read it first and send people over to your review. Maybe they'll be confused and give me credit! ;-) I had to laugh at the end of your ...

The Yiddish Policeman's Union was the first book by Chabon that I read, and while I liked it, I did not like it nearly as much as I thought I would. I read his Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and loved it! I have read a couple of his since and preferred them to YPU, so you might want ...

I agree with your assessment of The Yiddish Policeman's Union. Chabon is a great writer but I sometimes found this to be a hard slog. His Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is a far superior book and I suppose it's unfair to compare all his books to that one. I've read all of Agatha C ...

I started The Yiddish Policeman's Union over the weekend, but am finding it heavy going. Maybe it's not something to be read in little fits and starts. I like the characters, but I'm having trouble tracking the action, what there is of it.

I finished The yiddish policemen's union yesterday (fluff, but enjoyable - good characters, I think, and good world building, even if the plot felt X-fileish) and as my quest to polish off Mt TBR continues I'm now reading Century Rain.
