Loading... A Walk to Rememberby Nicholas Sparks
There was a time when the world was sweeter. . .when women in Beaufort, NC wore dresses ane the men donned hats. . .when something happened to a seventeen year old boy that would change his life forever. 2001 Simplistic writing designed to tug on the heart strings. Shameless, but I have to admit I got pulled in, too. Reviewed by Taylor Rector for TeensReadToo.com Landon Carter is now 57 years old and he is telling his love story from when he was a senior in high school. He still remembers the events of something that he thought was just a friendship as if it was yesterday. Jamie Sullivan was a minister's daughter, who wore boring brown sweaters every day, always tied her hair up in a bun, and always had her Bible with her. She is the girl that you would think of when you would imagine the person who gets made fun of in high school. She had never been on a date in her life, and Landon was one of the more popular boys in his high school. Landon didn't have a date for homecoming, so he decided that he would ask Jamie because she was too sweet to say no and wouldn't have a date yet. When he asked, she said "promise me that you won't fall in love with me." After a horrible night at homecoming, Jamie asked Landon to play the male lead in an upcoming Christmas play that was performed every year, and was a very big deal in the town. Landon didn't really want to, but Jamie talked him into it because she was playing the lead female and her father had written the play -- and Jamie wanted the play to be very special. After about two months of constant rehearsals, the play was performed and the town knew that this had been the best year ever. And Landon had to admit that it went well, and that he was falling in love with dorky Jamie. But there is a secret that Jamie was hiding from Landon. What could it possibly be? And why did she tell Landon not to fall in love with her? This is another powerful love story from an author that makes you believe in love. Read this amazing novel to find out the secrets of Landon and Jamie. Amazon Landon signs up for drama class thinking it would be an easy A. Then Jamie the preacher's daughter asks him to be the main character of the Christmas play that her father wrote. Landon agrees and after walking her home everyday after practice he realizes that he's fallen in love with her. Then she tells him that she has leukemia. I really enjoyed this book because it is a great love story. Even though it ends sadly it was a great book. But I think you can pretty much expect it to end sadly because that is the typical Nicholas Sparks book. Sappy. I guess many would find this sweet - I found it sickeningly sweet. Good for a quick read. This book suprised me. It was in the point of view of a male and how he falls in love with an unlickly love. Sometimes those things that are best for us are right under our noses and we do not see them. This book helps discover that it is not bad to be different and everyone will find a true love. As with all books made in to movies this book is much better. That being said this is my second favorite book by Nicholas Sparks that I have read. This is a story about a first love that goes love and loses and Landon finds away to go on. I love the way you really get to know the people and you get pulled into North Carolina every time you read one of theses books. A walk to remember is my favourite book of all time. I have read it so many times. This was an enjoyable book. I wasn't sure at first if I would like a high school romance. Landon Carter who was at first a disagreeable, rather snobbish guy who acted superior to the students that were not popular like Jamie Sullivan. An incredibly unlikely pair got together when Landon was desperate for a date for the homecoming dance. Not exactly the normal romance, but is intriguing to see how Landon is able to let go of his preconceived notions of her seemingly simple and plain look, religious beliefs and devotion to her father that is the local Baptist minister. He ends up learning the joys of love and the pain of extreme loss. Middle School girls will certainly enjoy this ones a real tear jerker. enjoyable and easy to read - from library book sale-read in a week A very heartwarming story. agreat lesson to be learned from this story. I love this book. It's beautiful. The movie is pretty good too, except they added a lot of junk that isn't in the book at all and they changed 'his' role dramatically from being a bored highschooler to being a rebellious highschooler. It's PG-13 so it's up to you(and your parents...) to decide if you watch it. I must have been in the mood for a romantic read because I absolutely loved it. I could not put it down & I needed a box of Kleenex beside me when I finished. So heart warming. Nicholas Sparks never dissapoints, at least not for me. When rebellious Landon Carter starts noticing outcast Jamie Sullivan in the small town of Buford, North Carolina what will he do? Is befriending a nobody worth losing his reputation, is anything worth that? Now, Landon has the choice of socializing with the nicest yet socially challenged girl or going back to his ‘normal’ life. But, he forgot to ask himself the most important question? what if he falls in love with her. Will she love him back? Will he be the new outcast? And, what if there was another obstacle he didn’t calculate, one that is on the bottom of his list. Can their relationship handle this? Dive into this mouthwatering novel about love and loss. A.I. Having already seen the film of the same name, I was interested to see how the book would measure up, particularly given Sparks’s impressive reputation in the ‘weepie’ genre. At first, I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. The large print and slightly clunky first-person narrative grated a bit and, at the opening of the novel, gave the impression that it would turn out to be, at best, a poorly-written teen-angst story. However, this impression quickly dissolved as the novel progressed, and it became clear that this was, in fact, a reflection of the protagonist’s youthful awkwardness rather than a narrative fault. The story is recounted by Langdon Carter, a middle-aged man telling the story of his relationship with his wife. At seventeen, Jamie Sullivan is a very good, rather holier-than-thou minister’s daughter who spends all her time reading the Bible, rescuing animals and helping orphans while her peers make fun of her. Langdon, however, gets to know her better and, despite himself, falls in love – only to find out that she is struggling with a terrible secret which will shatter life as he knows it. Of course I expected it to be sentimental; what I didn’t expect is that despite knowing the plot already, by the end of the novel I was crying as if my heart would break. An excellent, moving and inspiring tale of love and strength that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to incurable romantics. I loved this book! I is so sweet about how he says " 'Your beautiful.' I knew everyone knew I had nailed my first line." It is so sweet and a tear jerker. But the movie was awful. Sorry to be blunt, but it is not even worth renting at Blockbuster. They modernized it. Instead of being set in the 50's, it's in present tense. They show Landon drinking, smoking, etc.. Plus, they whole photoshopped picture of Jamie turned me off. I could tell it was supposed to be touching, but it wasn't. Read the book first. It is 100% better than the movie. Not sure if I've mentioned before, but, I'm not a big fan of Nicholas Sparks. 'A Walk to Remember' and 'The Notebook' are the only books of his that I like. The reason I read 'A Walk to Remember' was because I saw the movie. The movie was better than the book; but, the book was not bad. It was actually good enough to give it five stars. I would recommend it to people who like romance. 'A Walk to Remember' is the story of a teenage guy who ends up falling for the unpopular, goody two-shoes girl. She comes from a Christian family; her father is also a pastor. She is also a very sheltered girl. Which, I think, is because she is sick. There's not much more that can be said without giving away the whole book. It was the biggest hit onscreen and a blast on paperback...Nicholas Sparks really captivate my heart. One of my all-time favorite books, this is the story of Landon Carter and how his life was changed by Jamie Sullivan when he was seventeen. This is a bittersweet love story with a wonderful message of how miracles can happen. A very nice short read. It made me cry though. I recommend it for anyone who likes romance stories. This book shows a great moral that you cannot judge a book by its cover, or by what other people say about its cover. All in all a very sweet book. Classic love story. Popular guy falls in love with nerdy/nice girl.. Definatley cried at the end of this book. I read it in one day, becuase I didnt want to put it down Bittersweet love story. Well-written, engaging, often spiritual. Recommended. |
