Examples of pseudorandom number generators (PRNGs) which appear in U.S. standards include a DES-based PRNG in ANSI X917 (Appendix C), and two further methods in FIPS 186 (Appendix 3) based on both the Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA) and DES.
