Python Must Have: This is the book you need to have in your hand when coding Python. It was clearly written by somebody who has "done it", not just read the docs. Read This Fine Manual

I typically buy the Nutshell book for any new language or technology I intend to develop a certain level of skill with, and I've come to rely on the consistently high quality of the series. However, Python in a Nutshell is exceptional even among these. It starts with a solid grounding in the semantics of the language, explores the library in a clear and readable way, and finishes up an excelent reference on Python's C API.

I'd recommend this book to the Python novice intent on becoming an expert. ( )
