I kind of love this one, despite Bella being at her worst. It's nice to see her relationship with Edward mature, and it's fun to see the vampires and werewolves working together. Not a perfect book by any means, but still the best in the series, in my opinion. ( )

Not bad. Better now that Edward was back. Still annoyed with the wolves. ( )

In this point in the saga, Bella is still being hunted by a vampire that's been seeking revenge on her since the first book, and she is still trying to choose between her love for vampire love, Edward, or her friendship with her werewolf friend, Jacob. Bella's decision could ultimately be that re-start of century long feud between the vampires and werewolves if she's not careful. She also continues to long becoming a vampire to join Edward and his family.

In conjunction with the other books in the series, this would be in my personal classroom library for older grades (5th-7th). ( )

Yet another Twilight nightmare. In this instalment, Edward ups the ante in terms of creepy, obsessive, controlling and downright abusive behaviour by dismantling her truck (!) and banning her from going to see her werewolf best friend, Jacob Black, because he's too "dangerous." (Hello Pot, meet Kettle.) Jacob even points out how bizarre this behaviour is and that it is a warning sign for domestic abuse. Not that Jacob is perfect. In one chapter, he expresses his love for Bella, and she tells him she doesn't see him that way. Instead of accepting it, he tells her he's going to fight for her and he basically assaults her by forcefully kissing her. In retaliation, she punches him good and hard, which only serves to get her wrist broken. Edward is furious. The whole book has just turned into this love triangle thing. Meanwhile, she tries to get him to sleep with her, but he refuses because of moral reasons. She, of course, doesn't respect that and so he promises her if she marries him, he'll not only make love to her, but he'll change her into a vampire. She agrees to marry him, not because she loves him, but because she wants to get laid and become a vampire.

More mediocre writing and flat characters. Bella agrees to marry Edward for lousy reasons. Edward is controlling and abusive. Jacob sexually assaults Bella. Wondeful masterpiece, clearly. ( )

I actually skipped this book by mistake while reading the series... and didn't even notice until I looked at the movies...
I thought she was just doing something different in the last book by advancing the plot faster... ( )

Ask any high school girl: boys can be a pain. Fall for one who seems appealing, and he turns out to be a monster. One moment he acts like you don’t exist, the next, he drives you crazy by playing it cool — while his brothers circle you with hungry eyes. If you take a break to cut the tension, and hang out “just friends”-style with a younger guy who’s puppy-dogging you, what happens? Wouldn’t you know, he turns out to be a nightmare too.

Epigraph
Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
