This is a fiction book about a little girl that takes everything people say, literally. This is a good book for older students to learn idioms. ( )

Plot Summary: This is a story about a little girl's very first day of school. She was so excited to be at school and meet new friends but she didn't know how to behave in the classroom. Everything that the teacher said, she took literally.

Extensions: This book could be used to introduce classroom rules and procedures. This is a perfect book to demonstrate how you do not act in a classroom.

Really good rhyming book for the first day or week of school.

I like this story for the relevance to school children and creative to get students excited about the first day. The story is a good way to engage students on their first day. It has very vibrant colors that can give school a positive image. It also puts a funny twist on some of the things student have to do through out the day. For example if a teacher were to ask you to "glue yourself to your seat" a student wouldn't actually take glue and put it on their chair to sit on like Amelia Bedelia did. ( )
