Ted McKeever had a neat series called Metropol that was cool.
Also, Mike Mignola's Hellboy is fun and the artwork is to die for.
Mike Mignola also did the comic adaptation of Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula movie that is worth a look. I'm working my way through Mignola's Hellboy series, most recently with The Chained Coffin and Others. For the most part I enjoyed the first two collections but this one, where the author takes old folktales and fashions short Hellboy stories around them, is the highlight of the series so ... ... want to recommend books that aren't good, just because they're family-friendly.

Hellboy: as long as you don't forsee a problem with occult themes and Nazi villains (think Raiders of the Lost Ark with a few more tentacle-monsters), this could be a good ... ... Meyer

 #207 - Well, Hellboy was adapted from Mike Mignola's original Hellboy stories Seed of Destruction and The Right Hand of Doom, Nazis and all. I don't think it would have been very respectful of Guillermo del Toro to completely rewrite the origin.
I honestly don't understand why ... ... (I'm a sucker for them) called Shadows in the Mist. I haven't read much about it, but it looks to be some sort of a Hellboy-ish mixture of Nazis and the undead. The comparisons (however off-handed) to The Da Vinci Code are the only thing that worries me.
I'll be tackling it once I ... ... than the film makers intentions. As NightSmoke said, they wanted a Godzilla movie.
Cloverfield, the Hellboy movies, Doomsday, Death Race, the newest take on Journey to the Center of the Earth... there's still good shlock being made and it doesn't ...

16 down, 84 to go. ... by Edmond Hamilton is a pulp space hero/trouble shooter, as well.
If you want monster hunting cop types, then there is Hellboy, he runs around with a big gun, as does Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, for examples of the work for the authorities variety.
