I had a bit of a hard time getting into this. Most of the greek references seem almost simplistic in the beginning. A street gang called the Furies? With none of the idea of ruthless justice. Oedipus without much drama? Not too much of a spoiler, but this books version only apparently wounds himself but heals instead of carving out his own eyes at his deed. I was disappointed as I really loved some of the greek myths growing up. The re-tellings all seemed off.

The plot and writing seem to start improving toward the end of the first book, but the first part of it seemed to me an attempt to use the "adult" reputation of Vertigo to draw quite a few strippers. I don't mind nudity in comic books, but in many ways if that was the intent I'd rather just see a comic that revolved around the strip club. (Maybe even do something unusual and do a non-fantasy based approach?)

It seemed at the end of the book it was starting to pull together a little more, enough to pull it up to average. I might check out the next collection, but I'm not going out of my way for it. ( )

No descriptions found.

"Lust, rage, pride, vengeance-- these are the appetites that drove the tales and tragedies of the ancient Greeks. Now, on the streets of modern-day London, everything old is new again. The dark desires that doomed the likes of Oedipus, Agamemnon and Medea are calling to a new breed of royals and rogues. Strippers and psychics, cops and killers, peers of the realm and lords of the city-- all of them have their part to play in a deadly drama that's thousands of years old, yet always needs new blood to spill--" -- p.
