Adrian the vampire and Carmen the vampire slayer. Add their love for one another and there is an exciting mix of romance, adventure, intrigue and suspense. I throughly enjoyed this book. I loved this book. It has become one of my favorites and I have read it at least 5 times already. The vampires were real and believable. Adrian was tough, but when it came to Carmen he usually very gentle. And you can see why Carmen liked Adrian so much. Handsome, wealthy, powerful, and a vampire. What else is there to say? Carmen started out kind of wimpy, but by the end of the novel is a strong heroine. Dante and Rathbone were also interesting characters and Katherine and Baylen were very evil. I can't wait to see more about Adrian and Carmen and what happens in the second in the series. It was a fun, fantasy, romance that kept me guessing what was going to happen next. By the author: Hello everyone. Thanks for coming to my page to check out my book. It seems the controversy over one of my main characters has begun already. I did not write Adrian to be the unrealistic knight in shining armor, so if that is what you are expecting, you will probably not like him. He is a vampire and second in command of the secret vampire society. He has his redeeming qualities, but I wanted to write a more realistic portrayal of what someone in his position would be like. I compare Adrian loosely to someone in charge of any large underground organization. Smart, but tough and expecting those in the society to follow the rules and laws to keep everyone involved in the organization secret. Fire and Ice the Secret Vampire Society is the first in the series. This is a PG-13 rated novel for its level of sexuality and horror content. It is not written necessarily to a teen audience, but 13 and older will enjoy the story line and suspense level. Carmen meets Adrian Tallin while painting a mural in the foyer of his building. He is intriguing, handsome and wealthy. Carmen discovers as the story progresses that Adrian is a vampire and is second in command of the secret society. She is intimidated by Adrian's darker side, but loves him unconditionally. Through a series of events Carmen finds that she has some skills of her own as a vampire slayer; which enables her to have her own level of power in the relationship and puts her more on an equal footing with the vampires that she suddenly finds herself surrounded by. Adrian and Carmen struggle with their commitment to each other as they encounter other vampires, slayers and accusations of murder as they battle to love each other despite their overwhelming differences. It is an interesting story of love between two vastly different individuals. Carmen does eventually embrace Adrian's world to become the reluctant heroine. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a light, easy read that keeps you wanting to know what happens around each of the unexpected twists and turns of Adrian's and Carmen's adventures. I always really want the member giveaway books I get to be good. I root for people who are little known and/or self-published. However, I have just not yet had a good experience with a member giveaway. I understand these are rough copies and therefore need editing. But that is no excuse for shoddy, child-like sentence structure. Yet, I would overlook this if only the story had been any good. There was so much I didn't like about this book, I don't know where to start or if I even should. It would go on for pages. I will say this, I am exceedingly tired of the brooding, temperamental, psychotically untrusting male ordering about some swoony, weak, placating female. That isn't love. It's controlling and unhealthy and a really really bad example for women out there, especially the younger ones. If my significant other treated me like Adrian treated Carmen, I would stab myself in the throat just to spare myself the agony of his company. I just hope that no woman out there would ever allow a significant other to treat them that way. Ms. Wolfe has a vastly skewed notion of what romance is and it made her story about vampires tired, aggravating, and trash worthy. It also doesn't help that the only reviews I saw about it on Amazon were glowing ones which leads me to believe Ms. Wolfe has employed only her friends to write nice things about her fledgling novel. Poor showing.
A human woman marries a vampire in this well-crafted, traditional supernatural romance. Carmen is a painter who has never had much interest in love until she meets mysterious, bewitchingly handsome and boundlessly wealthy Adrian Tallinn. He owns the office building where her art has been commissioned, and after they meet sparks fly. Their romance progresses quickly. When Carmen wrecks her car after a seemingly demonic woman rushes into her path, Adrian buys her a new one. When someone burns down Carmen’s house, Adrian takes her into his guest quarters. The lovers’ physical relationship, however, is chaste, consisting of passionate kisses that stop abruptly when Adrian pulls himself back from Carmen’s neck. When her lover inevitably reveals that he is a vampire, Carmen flees town, but Adrian tracks her down a few months later, and she rejoins him. Meanwhile, Catherine, Adrian’s vampire ex-lover, stalks Carmen, and Adrian appoints himself her protector. The pair’s love for each other is passionate, and though Adrian warns Carmen he would kill her if she left again—she knows too much about vampires—this threat never seems to affect her feelings for him. Catherine makes a satisfyingly sinister villain. Later, Carmen and Adrian become deeply involved with a group of the country’s vampire leaders, of which Adrian is the second most powerful member, and the group members’ mixed feelings about a human’s participation in their affairs makes for compelling drama...fans of vampire fiction will find plenty to savor here. AWESOME BOOK!!, August 3, 2009 By Jeremy D. Lane "Katie Lane" (Colorado Springs, CO USA) - See all my reviews I LOVED this book. I usually don't read these types of books, but once I started I could NOT put it down. I read it straight through in 12 HOURS!!!! I highly recommend this book. It has romance, suspense, adventure, and it's clean. The love parts are just right! The only question I have is when is the next book coming out???? Great Book!, July 2009 This is a great book. Ms. Wolfe really develops her characters and draws you into the story line. I really found myself wanting to know what would happen next. I highly recommend this book!!

I had a really hard time debating what rating to give this book because I found the writing choppy and I really disliked the behaviors of the characters I kept reading and actually got through this book pretty quickly. So I feel bad giving it such a low rating. The main reason I did so was while I could get past the writing style there were many parts of the plot where I was telling myself “Come on. Really? Why do you believe that or why did you do that?”
I started off liking Carmen but by the end of the book even though she is supposed to be this strong character I thought as a fighter yes but other than that no. She constantly gives in and blames herself when she makes Adrian mad even when he is obviously in the wrong. I wanted her to grow a spine. Oh you guys were going to kill me? Don’t worry about it. All water under the bridge. Really? You forgive them that easily?
Again I liked Adrian a the beginning but as the story went on I kept thinking if he really loved Carmen he would have more faith in her. It seemed that with even the slightest provocation he immediately doubted her, berated her and would grow angry with her. Then she would just lap it up and forgive him. I can see him ignoring her opinions once but once she proved she knew what she was talking about I thought he should have taken her future instincts a little more seriously.
The other thing that bugged me was everything was just too easy and fell neatly into place. There were quite a few cliches and the plot was pretty predictable. I am also surprised that the Amazon description says this is for those 13 and older. I really think it was targeted more for an older audience.
One thing I did like was the reasoning behind why vampires don’t normally go out in the sun light. For a second I thought it was going to be because they sparkled and decided if that was the case I would put the book down. But it was something else that really made sense.
Wow, after rereading what I wrote I feel really bad but this is honestly how I feel. To be fair I did see some really positive, 5 star, reviews for this book on Amazon so it might just not have been my cup of tea. (
